The largest city in Switzerland is a major contemporary art and shopping destination. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, while those who consider shopping an art can hone their skills along Bahnhofstrasse and Niederdorf. Chagall's stained glass windows in the Fraumunster amaze and Zurich's 500 clubs and bars, including several in swimming pools, pulse with life 'til the early hours. This city on Lake Zurich has excellent public transit and a free bike rental system.

The interior of the Widder Bar is characterized by Raffael Benazzi's modern ram sculpture, but also by the cosy architectural charm of old wooden beams from the year 1291. It is the mix of contemporary art, historical heritage and the exclusive assortment of drinks and vintage cocktails that make the Widder Bar Zurich's most popular meeting place and a top location cross-border. Since December 2013, Dirk Hany is at the helm of the Widder Bar. The talented host and chef de bar was awarded "Barkeeper of the year" in 2008 - at the age of only 25. Besides exquisite champagnes and cocktails, sake-tinis and tequila-drinks, the unique ,,Library of Spirits" offers more than 1.000 ingenious spirits, from which 250 form a spectacular collection of different Single Malt Whiskeys.
After a walk in the old city we entered the Widder bar for a drink. The man at the piano played and sang. Beautiful ceiling with mighty big wooden. beams hovered over us while we enjoyed our drinks. Nice place.

Closed for renovation from Juli 16th until August 2nd, 2017.
We cut through the ground floor of brasserie Lipp near the main shopping street Bahnhofstrasse and in Uraniastrasse in Zürich, and made our way to the elevator for the Panoramabar in the rear. A short time later the elevator door opened and we were presented with a stunning view of Zurich in the late summer afternoon sunshine. We turned to the left and into the snug bar area. The bar staff found us a seat with a great view. All seats have a great view. We sipped some local wine and ogled the sunset. The bar staff assured me the spectacular sunset had been arranged by her and I had no reason to doubt her. Another glass of local Swiss red wine and it was time to go. The view is the chief attraction of the venue although the wine was good and for Zurich well priced. The atmosphere is very convivial and the staff attentive and friendly. The observatory is still functional and was running a session on astronomy that evening. There is a food service but we didn't partake. There would not have been much elbow room if we had but we would have made do. I really enjoyed the experience and would do it again. There is no entry fee and the drinks are certainly not prohibitively priced.
