Tradition collides with pop culture in Tokyo, where you can reverently wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar. Wake up before the sun to catch the lively fish auction at the Tsukiji Market, then refresh with a walk beneath the cherry blossom trees that line the Sumida River. Spend some time in the beautiful East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, then brush up on your Japanese history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Don’t forget to eat as much sushi, udon noodles, and wagashi (Japanese sweets) as your belly can handle.

A family-dojo with a history of 400+ years offers you real hands-on experiences. In 1582, the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Ieyasu was fleeing from Kyoto through Iga, and one of our ancestors escorted him together with the famous Hattori Hanzo, to Ise. This historical incident is called "Iga-goe" or Iga Crossing. Ieyasu, impressed by the Iga ninjas that he hired them to work for the government. Our ancestors served the Tokugawa Shogunate for 265 years. They were called "shinobi-samurai". In our Shinobi-Samurai Honjin dojo, you're learning directly from masters of the art with a long lineage and history . This is one of the authentic experiences, from the actual techniques to reasons behind them. Our interpreters are also our clan members who know our arts well. The basics we introduce does not require martial art skills. No rolling or striking is necessary. Want to have more than just having fun? We welcome you.
I have always been very into martial arts and being in Tokyo I couldn’t help but looking for an experience in the ninja art. Since I have done this a couple of times I was aware that it would be a very touristic attraction and I wouldn’t get to learn that much, but I wanted to do it anyway. What a surprise! They give you a very nice lesson about the art and make you experience the real art. The interpreter Kaoyu is very nice and speaks English very well - she helped us understanding everything the instructor was explaining to us. He also was very experienced and managed to teach us the techniques even with the language barrier. You also get to test a couple of weapons after a brief explanation of them and they will test you! Walked in waiting for a tourist trap and left the place with a great understanding of the art and life as well! Highly recommend!
