What to do and see in Odaiba / Shiodome / Shinbashi, Kanto: The Best Gear Rentals

December 6, 2021 Phylicia Berquist

Tradition collides with pop culture in Tokyo, where you can reverently wander ancient temples before rocking out at a karaoke bar. Wake up before the sun to catch the lively fish auction at the Tsukiji Market, then refresh with a walk beneath the cherry blossom trees that line the Sumida River. Spend some time in the beautiful East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, then brush up on your Japanese history at the Edo-Tokyo Museum. Don’t forget to eat as much sushi, udon noodles, and wagashi (Japanese sweets) as your belly can handle.

Docomo Bike Share

There was a lot of stress initially getting the bikes as the instructions were not very clear and limited information on the web. However we managed to crack the code so I'm writing this to hopefully make it easier for others in future as it is a great fun way to explore tokyo. We originally were going to get a 1 day pass but after going to a few counter (hotels) to get it, it worked out more expensive and the people were as confused as us because they didnt seem to knoe how it works. So we opted for the one trip membership which worked out cheaper and more convenient because you can use it at a time that suits you eg.the next day etc. 1. Register through their website and remember your log in details. You can choose your bikes on the website. I tried to connect it to the IC card (passmo) but didn't know how to work it. The passcode through the website is easier enough though. 2. Using the port function select the port you want to grab the bike. It breaks it down from the area then the ports available. If you are travelling in groups check that there are enough bikes at the port before going there as we learnt the hard way. 3. Once you select the port and choosen the bike available it will give you the 4 digit passcode. Press start on the keypad and the 4 digit and the bike will unlock. Voila Some things to clarify: - You can return the bike at any port unless specified so you can take it to any area. Eg Chidoya to Minato. - Make sure you lock it properly at the port once done. First lock it and it will say lock and then press "enter" and it will say returned. - Check the battery on the bike is full before getting it as the electric assist is great and makes riding a cruise. - you can use the same email for different accounts. You don't really need email acess as when you log in you can get the bike from there. - If you are worried about using your credit card and the exchange rate, the best option is to use your travel credit card. That should help you get going and enjoy Tokyo!!!
