Henny Bogan Does Deerfield Either it was 32 years of tinkering or just the conditions of 2020, but Deerfield Golf Club finally got it right. After the club re-opened in mid-May, golfers instantly noted the terrific conditions. Fairways and greens were in superb shape and tees were in pristine condition. This was no improvement on the greens which was always the best feature of the course. There exists the sneaking suspicion that the 2- month layoff early in the season gave the grass a chance to grow and thrive and it was particularly evident in the quality of the tees. Bunkers are okay, although the trap in front of the fourth just creeps me out. As for its other terrific features, the course has always sported the best par 5’s around and the best short par 4 in 5 counties. I’m talking the wonderfully designed 3rd hole, where the green sits behind a pond which has an uncanny way of snaring shots hit with just the slightest schlub. And I’ve always loved and feared the long par 3 second hole over water, where my blood type once changed into B Negative. Liquid disaster confronts the unwary on – “gasp” – twelve holes, and although the club and its members tout the longishly difficult 8th as the best hole at Deerfield – they are wrong. It is the most penal and unfair hole in the entire GTA, and don’t get me started. Oh, a most welcome change to the premises happened in the spring and everyone adores the new look 13th, with a grass bunker in front instead of a sand trap.

You really can't go wrong with this course..the club house and food are more than wrapped sandwiches and burgers and buns..there's a chef who actually cooks great food..the golfing...you'll use all your clubs..easy fun holes on the 9 hole angels view...nice layout..no power carts..bring cash for the beer cart..no Marshalls so pace may be a challenge some days..over all its decent!. nothing over the top and nothing cow pastery...Average 30 bucks for 9...no tv's in club house to kick back and relax with there's an outdoor patio...staff are really friendly and accommodating...good practice course that is kept well..rentals and pro shop with logo merchandise available...hopefully they stay open for years to come...urban sprawl is creeping up on their back door
