we went to visit, just because we had an hour to kill. little did i know that we would find a true working mill! Nigel Moon - a true living image of windy miller - was more than happy to tell us the history of this great working mill and let us climb up into the upper levels of the tower. Would loved to have been able to buy some flour but as we live overseas it wasn’t really possible. But talking to Mr Moon has made me more determined to buy quality bread or even try to make it myself! great place to take children

The splendid Great Hall of Oakham Castle is one of the finest Norman Halls in England. The Hall is best known for its collection of enormous commemorative Horseshoes donated by members of the Royal Family and Peers of the Realm. It is also decorated with a range of 12th century sculptures. The grounds of the Castle are a peaceful oasis in the centre of Oakham.
Amazing collection of horseshoes and lovely stories about them from our volunteer guide Jim! Free entry and parking. Highly recommended.

We chose this for my husband's funeral and to the best of my knowledge we were the first people to ever hold a funeral here. It's a wonderful location for it and I would recommend it unhesitatingly. We had a humanist service and the space was perfect, not too overwhelming and not too small, perfect. Parking is no problem, and it makes what could be a dreary experience into something memorable for the right reasons

Set in a beautiful rural location, just 4 miles from the pretty market town of Oakham in Rutland, we have everything you need for the perfect day out. Built within an original 1818 Victorian walled garden, the nursery was founded by Fred and Ivy Gates when they created a market garden back in 1948. Still very much a family business today, we are proud to say that many of the traditional values the business was built upon are just as important to us today. Covering over 10,500 square metres of indoor and outdoor displays and offering a wide choice of goods, ranging from indoor and outdoor plants, garden care and hardware, gifts, home ware, garden furniture and BBQs, clothing and much more besides, why not pay us a visit and experience the charm of Gates Garden Centre for yourself?
Fantastic place. Gates is just brilliant - amazing array of plants, gardening equipment, books, gifts, interior decor, coffee shop, restaurant and a Farm Shop that is simply amazing. Love it. Great to have it in the area - never come away empty handed.
