The town extends onto the mainland north of the island's bridge. The population was 6,783 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1999 by the consolidation of the towns of Long Beach and Yaupon Beach. Its main industry is tourism; the town has an average summer population of 30-50,000.

I highly recommend Island Healing Chiropractic Center in Oak Island, NC. This is my first experience with a chiropractor and I am so pleased. I came here in January in a lot of pain that traditional medicine had not healed. Dr. Karen has wisdom and insights about how our bodies work optimally and how medications can affect that. She has made improvements in all of my body during my adjustments. She offers practical suggestions each time for things I can add to my vitamin regimen and exercise. I have also had therapeutic massage with Shannon which has been helpful as well. Thanks!

The real deal. Fresh from the days catch. We had 21-25 shrimp per pound. Bought 2 pounds for 4 of us. The best shrimp ever. The smell of the ocean still on them. Used with yellow grits back at home. How can you go wrong. The crusty old guy out front taking orders and money, I swear was a pirate.

This is a small place with out door seating and certain times they have food trucks there. It is a great place to meet people and hang out and try different types of wine and beer. They also have certain nights where they have wine tastings and beer tastings. You can also stop by and pick up wine or beer if you don’t have time to hang out. Great family owned business.
