Did some research and reserved a spot to do the Top Tour. Well worth it, the light house is all volunteer run and they all seem to enjoy the lighthouse and all of the history. Will definitely be on our to do list in the future.

One of my familys favorite beach trips. Just a quiet, laid back family atmosphere. If you like to get away for the hustle and enjoy a peaceful family trip, Oak Island is highly recommended. So glad we gave it a try.

When we come to Oak Island my son loves fishing off of the pier. He meets new people every year and make new friends they talk about the fishing on the pier and fishing back where we are from and back where they are from so this pier brings fish men from all over together it’s a great place

Great shelling and maritime views from this westernmost tip of Oak Island, where Lockwood Folly River on one side of the Point empties into the south-facing Atlantic on the other. Small public parking lot with access to short paths across the dunes lead to your choice of oceanfront or soundside adventure. Watch your the time, so you don’t get caught on the flats when the tide turns. We visited the Pointe in winter and didn’t swim: however, we learned currents here are strong as the two bodies of water intersect. Locals also tell us sunsets along the Point are breathtaking.

We payed the $5 guest fee. Included with that fee is access to private fishing pier as well. Youll hear many people are cranky about the admission price - I completely disagree. There is no other fort on the planet where you can walk thru completely dark mostly undisturbed tunnels that are also free of tourists. We had a few unexplained encounters and had a once in a lifetime experience. One must be very careful walking the premises. This is not the kinda place you let your kids run free. These ruins are an absolute gem, saved and protected by the Christian group who purchased this land and kept it guarded from vandals for decades. Oh, and kids were free.

Spend a day at the Oak Island Pier at 705 Ocean Drive. Visitors of all ages can fish, sit and enjoy the view and stroll out over the ocean. The Pier is 880 feet long, and 27 feet above the water. It's the highest pier in North Carolina. Fishing passes are available for the day, for 3 days, for 7 days or for the season. The Pier House has snacks, beverages, bait and tackle and other supplies for enjoying a day at the Pier.
