Chateau de Bridoire

Reviewed By richarde616 - London, United Kingdom

A really lovely family day out. The chateau was recently rescued from extreme dilapidation by the Guyot family, who have created a fascinating and entertaining attraction over the last 6/7 years. The building has been lovingly restored and filled with a whole variety of room re-creations. Of particular joy is the informal nature of the chateau. You are free to wander pretty much everywhere and in several rooms old-fashioned games are laid out for the children (and adults!) to enjoy. You can also try on some armour and chain mail. But that’s not all, the grounds are also filled with medieval type games to pass the time. Chuck in some horses, an ice cream and a cave to explore, we loved it :-)

Place de la Myrpe

This square should be visited because of the lovely buildings dating back to the 17th century. It was formerly the place where the numerous sailors from the river boats came to dine and stay. A statue of Cyrano de Bergerac (1977) stands in the center.

Musee du Tabac

No—the Tobacco Museum isn’t intended to promote tobacco; nor is it meant for smokers alone! Its collections, which are unique in Europe, evoke the saga of a plant with an amazing destiny, sometimes blessed and sometimes cursed; originating and used in America more than 3,000 years ago before conquering Africa and then the world. Its modern manner of consumption has been vilified, but it has left its mark on every civilization sociologically, economically, culturally, artistically, and politically. Discover, in our auditorium and through our exhibitions of rare artefacts, this universal fact of social life, the history of tobacco’s use, and objects related to its consumption. The Tobacco Museum is located in the Maison Peyrarède, also known as the Henri IV Castle. The architecture of this building, constructed in the 17th century in the heart of the historic centre of Bergerac for a wealthy burgher family, stands as an example of the shift from Renaissance to Classicism.

Statue Cyrano de Bergerac

We stumbled across the Cyrano de Bergerac statue hidden away in a picturesque little square. It is not the only statue in of Cyrano in Bergerac, (the other is further down near a very good ice cream parlour) but, it is the better of the two.
