Monastero del San salvatore

The interior of this church is stunning, the decoration is of very high quality and there is a peaceful contemplative atmosphere. We were told by our excellent guide Annalise that it was done by a top painter from Palermo and what the different colours signify. The tour of the tower was interesting, the daughters of the wealthy families were sent here as nuns, but it is now a seminary for the priesthood. It was an easy climb up to the tower with no scary drops, and there are 360 degree views from the top.

if you are in Sicily and you miss Noto, well, you are not in Sicily. One of the most beautiful baroque masterpieces of Italy, Unesco World Heritage since 2002, it is an open air museum. Must see: the Cathedral, strolling on the Main Street at night, all the churches with hidden treasures, and the little FANTASTIC restaurants along the little side roads. Avoid the Main Street to eat , they are just tourist traps. Go down and choose the first or second street parallel to the main one, any place will satisfy your palate at a fair price. You are in Sicily, you are in Noto, paradise is a step away.

A steep street leading up from Via Vittorio Emanuele not far from the cathedral, this street is lined by old palazzos which have incredible carved balconies including Palazzo Nicolaci which is well worth a visit. Some restaurants along the street and Montevergine church at the top. In the summer, there is a flower festival along this street where a flower carpet is created on a given theme.
