The Vigeland Park is the world's largest sculpture park made by a single artist, and is one of Norway's most popular tourist attractions. The park is open to visitors all year round. The unique sculpture park is Gustav Vigeland's lifework with more than 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron. Vigeland was also in charge of the design and architectural layout of the park. The Vigeland Park was mainly completed between 1939 and 1949. Most of the sculptures are placed in five units along an 850 meter long axis: The Main gate, the Bridge with the Children's playground, the Fountain, the Monolith plateau and the Wheel of Life.
The Vigeland sculptures in Frogner Park (more often mistakenly called "Vigeland Sculpture Park") are really quite amazing and make this beautiful park so much more than just a wonderful space for relaxation and recreation. Any one of his masterpieces would be a sight to see but the effect of hundreds of them together is almost overwhelming and leaves the viewer with a deeper understanding of the human condition. As such, the collection is truly world class and an absolute must-see on any holiday in Oslo. You can get the number 12 tram from the centre / waterfront or the number 20 bus (which loops round the centre without entering it). Best of all, the park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and all year round, so you can visit when you like and spend as long as you like there. Given that the museums and art galleries pretty much all open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. (with shorter hours outside of the summer season), Vigeland can be tacked onto a day of sightseeing as a wonderful way to finish the day.

Lillesand Art Association and the Meta Hansen's House foundation took the inititive in 2010 to establish a sculpture park. The background for this is the collaboration with artist Bard Breivik, who in 2009 exhibited seven of his sculptures in the garden.

Actually a mausoleum, this unusually-shaped building is decorated inside with an 800 square meter fresco which took Emanuel Vigeland 20 years to paint.
My second time here, I've been itching to get back! Happy to see they now have some more funding, and will be opening the second room later this year :) As I said in my first review, DO NOT LEAVE TOO SOON to get the effect of this mausoleum. The light changes hugely over time, and you need to give it at the very least 20 minutes to start to experience what it has to offer. I stayed over 2 hours this time, and it's worth the effort! Fabulous place - the acoustics, the imagery, the lighting, the friendly staff, it's definitely my favourite place in Oslo - which is saying something in such a great city.

KODE is one of Scandinavia's largest museums for art and music. It has a unique combination of art museums and composers' homes, of visual art, historical objects, concerts and parklands. KODE stewards almost 50,000 objects that can be experienced in four museum buildings in Bergen city centre, KODE 1-4, and in the homes of the composers Ole Bull, Harald Saeverud and Edvard Grieg. Welcome to KODE!
There were 4 galleries that were open, including KODE KUNSTALL (1 gallery out of the 5 was closed), and each had a different feel, from ecclectic and modern to landsacpes, Edvard Munch and Picasso - just wonderful. My advice is to use your Bergen Card when you buy a ticket, but when you consider how much you see this is truly great value for money, with or without the Bergen Card discount. The galleries are situated in the centre of town around the lake with serene and beautiful views. Even with the covid requirements and restrictions visiting the galleries was such a lovely and peaceful experience. The staff were so welcoming and helpful too. If you have ever wondered what to do on one of Bergen's wet days - go to the galleries! You need three hours to take your time in all of them, more if you want to stop in the café and still go at a leisurely pace.

They are currently running an exhibit of 125 chosen items selected by a curious assortment of 125 people - everyone from university professors and art experts to children and a museum janitor. Supposedly the 125 best items from the collection. There is a fabulous book in English that you can borrow to read detailed description of each object and maybe some additional Norwegian history or cultural points. Nice gift shop too! 110 NOK (13 dollars) entry fee.

Moelstertunet is a picturesque farmstead, with sixteen buildings surrounding an open farmyard. All of the buildings are still standing right where they were when the last family moved out in 1927. Walking through the farmstead will give you a unique insight in building traditions and living conditions in older times. The oldest building on the farmstead, an open-hearth log house, dates from the early 1500s. In the nearby exhibition hall a comprehensive exhibition will tell you more about how people lived and worked in Voss in older times. The museum also displays temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Voss folkemuseum has a huge collection of artifacts, folk art, tools and other objects. There is also a big archive, a small library, and one of the biggest museum collection of photos in Hordaland. From Moelster you have a wonderful view of Vossevangen and the Vangsvatnet lake. At the entrance you will also find a small cafe With a great view and a Museum shop. May 18th - August 31st: open daily 10-17 September 1st - May 16th: Mondays-Fridays 10-15 Sundays 12-15
