The visitor centre is extensive, housing a wide variety of animals from traditional farm breeds to small animals, pets and exotic species. There is something for all, Meet the Meerkats, have a Hoot with the Owls and be Mesmerised by the Marmosets and much much more!! There's even a chance for Farmtasticfun for the kids to play and explore! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest!!
We had a great day. Even with the changes due to covid and the Gayle force winds ???? the day was brilliant. So much to do and see. Great fun for all ages ( even ya adults enjoyed the park haha!) Can’t wait to re visit again in the summer

Cragend Hydraulic Silo Tower is a Grade II* listed building of National Importance with Historic England. It was designed and built by Lord Armstrong of Cragside in the 1880's to make silage for his prize cattle that lived at Cragend Farm for him to show to his friends along with Victorian machinery, turbines and a weighbridge. Powered by water from the Blackburn Reservoir this site is full of history and interest.
A great October half term getaway at East cottage in a crazy Covid year. We couldn't have been happier with this find. Great cottage, superbly equipped, very clean (and felt very Covid secure). A lovely rural setting. We have 3 acid tests as a family for cottages - is the WiFi as good as at home (2 kids!) are the beds as comfortable as our beds and does the shower pack a punch. This cottage ticked all 3 boxes! Better still, Shaun and Lou are excellent. On hand on site if you need them and enriched our stay with suggestions of things to do. The girls got to care for and feed a poorly goat and sheep which they absolutely loved and the walks from the cottage were numerous and stunning. Clear skies made for great star spotting and night hikes! Great part of the world - we spent time at Cragside, by the river and at the coast (Bamburgh, Farne islands, Warkworth and Alnmouth were all hits). Northumberland hit all our expectations of a great break. Couldn't recommend East Cottage highly enough.

Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre, is a traditional old working farm museum. Get up & personal with the resident gentle giants, the Clydesdales, learn their history and browse through an extensive museum collection of old working farm machinery and associated memorabilia. The Centre does not charge for admission but is ran as a not for profit organisation and donations are welcomed- all monies donated are directed back into the centre for its upkeep and the welfare of the horses, as Hay Farm is also a registered rescue Centre for heavy horses. The centre is largely undercover and is wheelchair friendly. Dogs are welcome on leads. Refreshments are available from the gift shop and homemade picnics can be supplied by prior arrangement. Group/ Large Parties are welcomed, please book for guided tours. Coaches welcome. Each third Sunday of the month visitors are able to peruse around the Farmers Market. THE CENTRE IS CLOSED ON A MONDAY EXCEPT FOR BANK HOLIDAYS THE CENTRE WAS SHOWN ON BBC COUNTRYFILE IN APRIL AND ALSO WAS RUNNER UP IN THE WOW AWARDS FOR BEST TOURIST ATTRACTION.
Visited today (having visited the area two years ago and didn’t even know it was here - a real hidden gem) and we all (Grandma and my four year old son) really enjoyed it. The staff are so friendly and helpful, but at the same time leave you be to see the pigs, the sheep, the geese, the ducks and most importantly the ‘heavies’. It’s clear to see these beautiful animals are all much loved members of the family, the staff speak with such fondness of them. Being able to get so close to such giants to pet and stroke them and give them a treat is very special (if you love horses). Looking at the history behind Farm technology and how the horses were used is fascinating - and seeing all the impressive harnesses, bridles and leatherwork displayed gave a true sense of how strong these animals are. A gift shop where you can buy a souvenir and grab a slice of cake and coffee really completes the trip. Sad to miss the carriage rides but if we’re ever in the area again visit Hay Farm Heavies would definitely be on our must see list. Thank you to the boys (Teddy, Merlin, Scot, Dan and cheeky Stan) for being so patient and gentle and Cane and Sparkle too!

Had we not had lunch earlier we would have had the afternoon tea which is served on a three tier stand and looks amazing, we had coffee and cake and tea and a pastry, cake and strawberry tart delicious have to mention the service the lady who served us was lovely even though it was busy and very hot she was friendly and nothing to much trouble sorry I didn’t get her name. The other staff just as nice and friendly coping well with the new way we all have to be in these strange times. The shop is wonderful so much choice and variety well laid out and again ever so friendly staff the pies are scrumptious. There are gift ideas, plants, even a pick your own fruit when in season. I can’t recommend this farm shop and tea room enough it’s well worth a visit.
