Home to both the midnight sun (with constant daylight from April to July) and the northern lights, North Norway is a rugged land of steep mountains, deep fjords and scenic coastline, making it a great place for outdoor adventures like dog sledding, snowmobiling and wildlife safaris. It's also the ancient home of the Sami people, 3,000 of whom live (along with 100,000 reindeer) at Kautokeino, Norway's largest municipality at over 3,700 square miles.

The museum shows the war history from Bodø and Salten with several theme exhibitions and we have a separate department that deals with the war sailors. The museum building is from the war and was a so-called "Flugleitung" which included, among other things, a fire station, meteorological office and other operational tasks in connection with the German airport.

The Norwegian Aviation Museum is among the largest aviation museums in Europe. Our collections include more than 40 aircraft and helicopters.
Great views from the air tower and an excellent review of aviation - especially if you have knowledge of the air force yourself

MAB 3./513 Kiberg is a WW2 German coastal fortress, established in 1942. It was the northernmost part of Germany’s Atlantic Wall until 1944, at which point it was abandoned because of the approaching Soviet army. Kiberg was furnished with super heavy batteries – 3 280 mm naval guns. The fortress is situated at Kibergsneset – which is also the easternmost point of Norway’s mainland.

The Blood Road Museum is situated in the grounds of Saltdal Museum. The story of the lives and work of prisoners of war under the German regime from 1942-1945 is presented in a German barracks moved here from Dunderdalen. Thousands of prisoners of war from eastern Europe were sent north to build roads and railways. They suffered inhuman conditions. Many never returned. This is a different tour experience in surroundings where the silence is tangible. Words are inadequate but impressions are many and deep. This is an important journey in a time which must never be forgotten.
