This is a perfect area to exercise, to hike or even to go with your Family and friends to make a picnic, cooler than the city on summer time, I really like it, and if you just want to hike and then enjoy a nice meal or even stay teh night, there is an hotel at the top. Nice for staying the night and enjoy the view of the city at night.

A historic street in downtown Monterrey passing through the Plaza de los 40 Años and the Mexican History Museum.
Not only the city of Monterrey rescued an area which had been abandoned for decades if not for centuries. It added a tourist attraction for visitors as well as for locals. Although San Antonio, TX river walk was first, Monterrey’s is far larger. The boat ride is $60 pesos per adult and it includes a round trip with the opportunity to get out of the boat at the opposite end of the ride to tour the surroundings, either the Macroplaza or the Fundidora park. This river walk sits where it once was the bank of the Santa Lucía water wells where Monterrey was founded more than 400 years ago. Talk about a place with history.

Stunning and dramatic caves dating back more than 50 million years ago.
This was as nice a cave as Carlsbad, NM. It helps if you know Spanish because I didn't know any. I was stuck in Monterey and this is one of two places I visited. You begin on a cable car ride. You look up and see this isn't you typical ride, it's high, all the way to the top of the mountain. Once you get going you think, wow this is Mexico, I hope they do maintenance on this. The ride was nice and we made it. You come to a steel door on the side of the mountain. The tour guide opens it and inside is a huge and took a couple of hours to complete. Although I didn't understand a thing they said, I knew about the minerals and the shells. I was told this is a place a painter named Garcia use to come to. I don't know if that's true or not. I would do this again if I felt safe going back to Monterey/Mexico.

This museum has a combination of fossils exhibits, live animals, educational videos, and natural science facts with uncomplicated explanations. People of all ages can enjoy a visit of this museum and learn about fossils found in Mexico, climate facts and how the different deserts are found around the globe as well as their respective plants and fauna. A small collection of live animals, great exhibits of serpents, and nice collection of cactus and other desert plants. The only downside in my opinion is separate the cost of the parking and the entrances, but it is worth it the prices. At the end, you leave the place with a significant knowledge of prehistoric era, deserts, animals and plants habitats from some arid areas of Mexico. It also makes you conscious of the ambient and the consequences of the human negligence.

The Quinta Gameros is a gorgeous construction very well maintained. The Art Noveau furniture collection is just amazing. The dining room set is just out of this world. The house is also used as a cultural center for the University of Chihuahua, a very nice scenario for the enjoyment of book signings and concerts. Its a must-see while visiting the city of Chihuahua.

The visitors center is nice. There is an 18 minute movie in english you can ask for. There are two short informative hikes that have signage in spanish and english. The road to the craters is permanently closed due to a local township wanting a fee for passage so they made a new road further north. You still have to check in at the biological center where the old road starts, 23 Km north of the visitors center. There you will pay an additional fee and be given instructions and a map. All in spanish. The new road is at Km 51 west out of Sonoyta, about 125 Km. A bit of an inconvenience but we wanted to see the craters and we had packed a lunch and had plenty to drink. The entrance is not marked but it is next to a structure being built, probably a new entrance office. From there it is pretty straight forward. High clearance vehicles are a must. The camping area is pretty spartan. It has a couple of tables with fire rings. The desert was in full bloom and was breath taking.

Cholla Bay is a nice quiet spot in Puerto Penasco! Nice beaches, restaurants and a famous JJ’s Cantina is a must stop! Check out Scott’s condos for a comfortable stay as well! Cholla was great!
