Recommend fro a few extra pounds use the Stena Plus lounge Cairnryan - Belfast Truly excellent. Comfortable, first class friendly service, good free snacks and drinks as well as great breakfast and lunch menu. Newspapers, books etc. 2.5 hours of comfort and relaxation. Worth every penny However note during the winter months this crossing can get a little bumpy but all in all great service just a shame its a 51/2 drive for me to catch it Grrrrrrr

Rathlin-Ballycastle Ferry Service. A perfect day out in Northern Ireland. A world away for a day! Rathlin Island is NI's only inhabited off shore island and is the perfect destination for adventure and great days out. 5 miles North of Ballycastle and 12 miles West of Scotland's Mull of Kintyre it is idyllic and an ideal destination on the Causeway Coast for a day away or overnight trip.
Telephone ahead to be sure of a place on the ferry. Staff are really friendly and lovely in both the ticket office and on the ferry, answering questions.

Voted “Best Ferry Company” three years running*, there’s no better way to start your Scottish adventure than with P&O Ferries. What’s more, when you travel with P&O Ferries, the holiday starts as soon as you step on board. Enjoy a drink in our tranquil Club Lounge, or a choice of international cuisines from our food court. Little ones will love our kid-friendly menus and after working up an appetite, will enjoy letting off steam in one of the play areas. Sadly had to return to Ireland for a Bereavement and was the only principal who could take a car, thought I would give P&O a go having done Stena last year, booking easy and so was the check-in process , boat slightly late due to weather, the Larne ferries are basic in comparison to the Dover Boats and Stena but adequate for the trip, off the other end in under 20 minutes from the cardeck call. Foot passengers unless going to Larne better served by Stena. Fish and Chips on board was very good and reasonably priced (in context).

We have always avoided travelling on this route in the day as I cannot bear to spend 8 hours awake on the Stena Mersey or Lagan. This ship however was considerably more pleasant. Lots of space, friendly helpful staff, very clean and fresh and a selection of good food. Dog kennels were also clean and comfortable looking. Social distancing made the experience even more pleasant. I’m not a people person! Only downside was trying to find anything- toilets, cabins and most importantly how to get back to your car. After scaling several different staircases, to find locked doors, we eventually got to our car with minutes to spare before we drove off. Better signage is definitely needed. If every journey was people free and relaxing as this, I would travel this route every time- even on the daytime crossing.
