The Greenway has at last been extended at the Higham ferrers end and goes out to the Kimbolton rd end an estimated addition of about a quarter of a mile. Due to an illness and the coronavirus, I was unaware of this excellent addition to an already pretty walk. There are decent signage throughout the walk which is needed as this walk follows a quite broken pathway. There has been talk of the old railway line being extended upto the Queensway in Higham ferrers and is of course all down to funds. We walked the entire Rushden/ Higham greenway path and it took us about an hour and was a circular distance of about 3.5 miles. Visited 4th May 2020. Tips....be aware that parts of the track may be seen as no go areas at certain times of the evening.....otherwise an excellent walk with red kites and muntjac deer in abundance.

There are no toilets, cafes, or any particular facilities past a smallish car park and trails. If you want more go to Fineshades which is very close, much bigger and ready to meet more extensive needs. So Wakerley Woods. I would say it's pretty good for walking etc as it's pretty quiet. I have seen innumerable squirrels, a very occasional and even a woodpecker tapping away. I though use Wakerley as a easy spot for some MTB cycling. There are a few tricky zones, particularly when it's wet, but it's good fun. Nothing too demanding but definitely gets your blood pumping. Best spot I have found locally.
