Lookout Mountain Preserve

I hiked the summit trail. It was about 40 minutes round trip. There are a lot of loose rocks but I didn’t have any problems. Just pay attention to where you step. The views were amazing. We did a sunset hike and I loved every minute of it. Bring water - you will need it. The summit trail pretty much goes right up the mountain. We had a 12 yr old with us that made the hike easily. There are many trails here. Some go around the mountain. There is limited parking.

We live in the Dallas, Texas area and a group of my friends wanted to go to Phoenix for a get away for the weekend to play several rounds of golf. The group of guys stayed at a different resort where we played 1 round on Friday and 2 rounds on Saturday. My wife wanted to stay at a different resort as she needed a break from the Covid-19 stress. We stayed at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort as she had checked and found they had a golf course not affiliated with the hotel. She found out the 10th holes tee box is the highest in Phoenix. She made a reservation for me as we were coming a day earlier and left a day later than the rest of the group. I am so glad she did as I got to play on Thursday at the beautiful Lookout Mountain golf course. Mary spoke to Jeff Allen at the pro shop when she made the original reservation for me to play alone on Thursday. She asked him if any restaurants were open and if the amenities at the resort would be available during the stay. Several pools were open to the guests but the water park was closed except for the water slide. We are both over 65 so that was not an issue as we were in the adult pool most of the time as we did not have our children or grandkids with us. It had a limited menu with bar wait staff that served the pool area as well as safe distancing dining. Jeff also suggested the restaurant “A Different Pointe of View” on the property. He stated it was a bit pricey but well worth the experience as the views and food are fabulous! That was truly a great experience. Thanks for the tip, Jeff. When my wife made the hotel reservation, I asked her to get me a tee time at Lookout Mountain for Thursday at 1:00 pm. We took an early flight so I could play the day we got there and be ready for the next 3 days of golf with the guys. She drove the cart while I played. When I got to the course the starter stated that he had another single and asked if he could pair us together. I didn’t know who it would be at the time but when I was putting an Aggie walked up and we struck up a conversation saying we came all the way from Texas and Mississippi and the 2 biggest rivals in Texas are putting at the same time. Colby, the Aggie stated he was playing with another guy at 1:00 pm. How ironic is that? Little did I know I would be playing the round with an “AGGIE” from Texas A&M University. I had on my UT (University of Texas) ball cap and my UT golf bag was already on my cart. Both universities are big rivals and if you know anything about Texas, “Football is KING!!! He was 27 and I am 72. We played the blue tees and I held my own with Colby. We had a great round and enjoyed making a new friend. I told the group I was playing with about the course and 10th tee box. Eight of them had late flights on Sunday and wanted to play it. A few days later I was on the phone with my wife making reservations with Jeff for the 8 of us for Sunday. There were going to be 9 but 1 had to drop out. We had 3 tee times and let them know Sunday morning so we ended up only needing 2 which freed up one slot so they could move other players up if they got there early. Texas is so hot and has had high humidity this year. In Phoenix it was hot but the low humidity and breezes in the mountains were a great relief. We had a such a great time everyone is wanting to come back to this resort again and play. The views and scenery were fantastic. It is kept extremely well maintained and there is not so much desert areas to lose your balls, although we did manage to lose a few. The greens were double cut the day we played so they were very fast. Remember when you go to the restroom take the cart key with you. There are two keys on the key ring and you need one of them to open the door. My wife learned that the hard way. Everyone at the golf course were exceptionally friendly. Jeff Allen in the pro shop and the other staff, Joseph at the cart barn gave my wife a towel to sit on as the cart cushion was extremely hot, the golf starter, Ira offered my wife a job as a beer cart driver. He was very congenial!! All of them strive to make your round a memorable experience. Do not pass up the chance to experience the views and this fabulous course while in Phoenix. Be sure to ask for Jeff Allen for individual tee times or Brett Trenter foe group discount rates. They are the BEST!!
