Very nice rapids in Pite river. There is a boardwalk along parts of it so you get good views. Now in the winter the water has sub-zero temperature and this makes the ice being built up from below. This can cause floods and recently there was a threat to the hotel at the bottom of the rapids.

An absolute gem of a venue. The museum itself offers a great range of exhibits and a great insight into Sami life, culture and history as well as information about the Norbotten and Laponia region and history. The staff are wonderful, well informed, friendly and speak excellent Swedish, English and also Sami. They attached restaurant offers some great meals including local delicacies. The gift shop is one of the best (in terms of goods and prices) in the area. As a regional guide, I frequently take groups to this museum and often book the 'guided tour' that is available. I would highly recommend this, there is a charge, but with a group of 7+ it is only very slightly more expensive than the standard entrance fee, so is well worth it! The venue is also great for kids!

If you are in to trekking and mountain hike, this is the place. One of the most beautiful places in Lapland. Plenty of well marked trails to follow. The "Kings Trial" Kungsleden starts here at the Abisko Turist station.

Of Sweden's 71 original church towns, only 16 are left today. The majority of these have been reduced to a remnant. Gammelstad has the country's largest and best preserved church town with 408 cottages comprising 553 rooms. The church town presumably arose from a combination of several factors: the long distances, merchants' needs for storage and accommodation at the marketplace, the church stables and last but not least the population's duty to attend church regularly. Gammelstad Church Town was put on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 7 December, 1996. Visit Gammelstad Visitor Center for more information. Visitor Center offers information, exhibition, slideshow room, souvenirshop, audioguides and guided tours of Gammelstad Church Town.
It was awesome to go around and listen to the tour, very vivid. The tourist information personnel was very friendly and helpful!
