The Lofoten Islands off the mainland are considered among the world's best for travelers and include unique attractions like the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg. Saltstraumen near Bodo has the world's strongest tidal current. The museum has a large collection from WWII. The museum tells the stories of WWII in North Norway and the dramatic fight for Narvik i 1940. The museum has a section devoted to universal questions related to war and human rights. The quality and design of the exhibition is exquisite and must be experienced!
In this museum you find out the significance of Narvik and northern Norway in the second world war. It's less technical war museum and brings more the humanity aspect to it. It's actually more about the futility and waste of human lives that comes with wars.

A visit to northern Norway`s best preserved trading post is a journey back in time. Here you can feel the past, with "jektefart" and fish trading, Herring and the daily life in northern Norway coastal communities in the 19 century. Kjerringoy Trading Post is a unique example of coastal heritage set in magnificent scenery. It consists of 15 old buildings retaining many of their original contents. It is one of the country's most important collections of buildings from the nineteenth century. The beautiful slide-show "Anna Elisabeth of Kjerringoy" provides an excellent introduction to a visit. Lille Kabelvåg art galley and museum isn’t quite as little as its name would lead you to believe. Spread over 600 square meters, the exhibition space displaying works by more than 200 artists, the Gallery & Museum is one of Lofoten’s largest private art galleries. The gallery was founded by the artist couple Inger Anne Nyaas and Thor Erdahl in 2006. In the gallery you find their work. Inger Anne Nyaas is a textile artist, and by her own admission, enjoys challenging the traditional understanding of the artistic arena. Thor Erdahl is a painter and graphic artist, and renowned for depicting motifs from nature by using large formats, simple shapes and vibrant colours. He grew up in Kabelvåg, and is held in high regard as one of the region’s most eminent artists. In 2014, the gallery opened the object and art exhibition Kunst i motbakke (Uphill Art), a large installation incorporating elements from archaeology, history, graphic design, photography and arts and crafts.

The Jekt Trade Museum in Bodø is a maritime and cultural historic museum. The preserved authentic vessel Jekt Anna Karoline is the centre of the exhibition. The history of Jekt Trade includes the history of trade, cultural contact, fisheries and sailing in Northern Norway. The museum includes an outdoor museum and is situated in a stunning coastal landscape in Bodøsjøen. The museum restaurant Vengen Skafferi offers tastes of history in a new nordic style. Local produce, fish and traditional recipes inspire the menu. In our museum shop, you can find travel memories and specially made gifts based on northern Norwegian crafts and history.
An excellent, new museum centred around a restored 19th century trading boat. Shines a light on the role of northern Norway in European trade since the 1300s. Particularly revealing about how the fate of small coastal communities was bound up with the ability of the boats to make their journey down to Bergen to deliver fish safely and return with provisions for the winter. Little of interest for younger children but an eye opener for teenagers on how tough life was in the past.

Narvik Museum tells the stories of Ofoten line Railway construction and operation, of mining concern LKAB's iron ore transport over the harbour of Narvik, and the town of Narvik's 100 years long history. Apart from watching films, pictures and models, you can also experience a "train ride" in an authentic car used on Ofoten line. Museum has also exhibitions devoted to rock carvings, wreck diving in Narvik harbour, the coming Hålogaland bridge and central tunnel in Narvik, Sami people in Ofoten and much more. We are located in former NSB's (Norwegian Railways) administration building, monumental house built in 1902, short walk from Narvik's central square. There is a fine view over Narvik harbour and LKAB's facilities from museum's park. We also have a small museumshop and a simple café. Free parking.
