It took us more than 2 hours travelling from Hanoi. Phat Diem Cathedral actually consisted of one big church and 4 smaller ones surrounding. The churches were beautifully blended of the traditional Vietnamese culture and architecture and the Western religion reflecting in every single corner. Highly recommended to register a short tour with the sister at the Information Centre to understand more about the history.

Oasis of serenity. This place is so beautiful and so peaceful it's unreal. Me and my partner did a 3 hour tour with another couple we met at the ticket counter (it was 4 people per boat) decided on tour 3 and off we went. We spotted fish, all different kinds of birds and even some mountain goats. Stopped in various pagodas and rowed through a super long and dark cave. It was one of my favourite days while backpacking Vietnam (we did the Mua Caves in the am) and so if you ever visiting Ninh Binh you should definitely do this, you will not be disappointed.

Inside the Trang An Landscape Complex, you can discover the most ancient place calls Tuyet Tinh Coc. From Trang An you drive about 15' and will reach this awesome place. Buy ticket 20k vnd and you will spend your endless time here. Follow a tunnel and the amazing scene appears in front of your eyes will definitely worth the visit. The old pagoda with around 250 stone stairs to climb will give you an amazing view of the place. Walka bit further inside, you will find an old gate of an ancient palace. The big lake with fresh green water which you can see the fish and the weeds. You will have many best photos in this place.

Located in Ninh Binh province 100 km southeast of Hanoi, Hoa Lu and Tam Coc are two of the most picturesque spots in all of the north. For 41 years, from 968 to 1009 CE, Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam. Nearby Tam Coc is often referred to as “Ha Long among the rice paddies.” Visitors are conveyed by rowboat along the peaceful Tam Coc stream past green fields and the feet of mountains into the mouths of caves, where they encounter new surprises, like stalactites and stalagmites that shimmer like gemstones just inches from the water.
It's called the land-version of the Halong Bay, and located about 2 hours from Hanoi by bus, The best way to see the beautiful scenery -- many steep and isolated hills alongside a nice river - is to take a 1~1.5hr boat ride (usually 4 tourists and a roller on each boat). The hills are much smaller than the islands of Halong Bay, yet they are no less beautiful. Definitely worth the trip !

Bai Dinh Pagoda, which belongs to The World Natural and Cultural Heritage Trang An Landscape Complex, has been considered as the Southeast Asia’s largest Buddhist complex. It consists of several temples and over 500 intricately carved statues of Buddha, including some giant ones. Set within the Gia Sinh Commune, it attracts a huge crowd of local devotees and travellers looking to pay their respects and have their fortunes told by the resident monks. There are two main pagodas of the same name, one of which is located on the slopes of Dinh Mountain often called the Ancient Pagoda. Accessible via a 300-step stairway, this quiet shrine houses a main prayer hall and natural caves, where locals pray to Buddha, Mother Goddesses and mountain spirits such as Saint Nguyen and Genie Cao Son. The New Bai Dinh Pagoda (extended part) is about 800 metres away, seen in most photos, covers a total area of 7 million square metres and achieves lots of titles in The Guinness Book of Vietnamese Records.
Visited Bai Dinh Pagoda which is the temple spiritual and cultural complex with its remarkable Buddha statues. Bai Dinh pagoda in the northern province of Ninh Binh has been attracting many pilgrims during early days of the lunar New Year due to its remarkable Buddhist architectural structures and for the tranquil atmosphere and stunning beauty at night.

Beautiful pagoda with ponds around - we went when it was off season so didn’t get to see the blossomed lotus flowers however can imagine this would have been a beautiful site! There is a small cave inside and a viewpoint at the top. Worth a visit here whilst in Ninh Binh / Tam coc. A lot of parking for motorbikes / bikes right outside too for 10,000VND.
