One can't see how clean the water is without taking the Zhucao boat. The lake is full of sea weeds with beautiful little white flowers floating on the water.

Lige is a small Town at the Lugu Lake with mainly small Inns, Restaurants and some Bars to cater for the Tourists. There is not much real life going on. Boats can be rent for a small trip on the lake. I recommend to rent a small motorbike and spent one day riding around the lake with various stops on the way. This will give a good insight on the local life.
In Lige a must do is eating the BBQ Pork.

This is probably the most convenient place for foreign tourists to stay at Lugu Lake. There's several restaurants that serve western food, and others that serve frog, mushrooms, and other local specialties. There are only two banks, neither of which accepted my card from a major Chinese bank. There's a lot of hotels to choose from. It didn't feel as crowded as Lige village, despite the size.

Our tour guide, sophia from Keith Lyons Tour Service, took us to many local sites not often seen by touists. One of these was the beautiful Zhiyun Temple. As we approached the drive up to the temple, there was a beautiful, painted entrance way depicting the year of the lamb. Very unusual columns lined the road up to the monastary. Prayers written by the monks on different colored flags hung from many of the trees before you entered the temple. We learned so much about the life of the monk and were surprised to see young boys around 7 /8 years old running around. It is well worth your time to visit.

Ascending by cable car was amazing, extremely steep. You could see elaborate trail markings in the mountainsides from the monkeys foraging. The cable car lets out to a steep long staircase (prepare to get out of breath from high altitude, and to see friendly monkeys along the way) that leads to a Buddhist temple, and priests are there to give you incense for a donation. The view of the lake should be spectacular, but was not on that particular day due to a forest fire nearby. We decided to get on down if the fire got too close to us. There was actually charred mountain side in our view, likely from another fire that had occurred before we were there. Don't miss learning about the native Musuo people and their interesting, ancient culture, and tradition known as walking marriage.

The highlight of the visit was the talk on their culture and way of life, their attitude to money, life and death. Really interesting!
