These mountains of sand rise 300 feet above the desert floor.
I've passed them quite often so I thought I should stop there. I just chilled on the dunes and took some pictures. It's a great place for some really amazing shots! If you only want to take pictures and stay 1h or less, you can park there for free and walk around for free, they seem to be pretty lenient. For more, you obviously have to purchase pass. It is definitely a really great desert experience!

This attraction is located pretty much at the end of slab city, which e The way this place is maintained is really commendable, carpets mark the path and old tires the boundary. It seems people visiting it either treat it as a shrine or a museum. Also it seems like some of the art was relevant to the times with certain contemporary political events influencing the TV texts etc. once all the other groups left I had the place to myself and it was then that the eeriness factor went up exponentially.. the incessant creaking of the Wind spinners got the hairs on my arms all standing. All in all loved this place!

Sitting just off of Salton Sea is a large mud/clay field. Water and steam are forced from below to create bubbling pools of water and mini volcanos. The mud/clay piles on top of itself from the openings in the ground to create what look like mini volcanoes. It's very cool and worth the trip given there is plenty other things to do while you are in the area. Definitely be prepared to get muddy if you go anywhere other than summer. Wear high hiking boots and bring a pair of back up shoes and a bag to store your walking boots that get muddy.

This is not the USA of TV or Hollywood. This is the gathering place for people who have given up on the 'American dream ' , checked out and live off the grid. Salvation Mountain and the open air museum are must sees. It's all free, just like the people living there.
This part of the California desert contains towering sand dunes.
