What to do and see in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada: The Best Things to do Good for Couples

May 9, 2022 Marissa Gamble

In Canada's wine country, Niagara-on-the-Lake presents a well-preserved 19th-century village and its charms. Drive or bike through the area, stopping at wineries and Fort George National Historic Site. Ride along the Niagara Escarpment on horseback or book a white-water adventure at nearby Niagara Falls (you might have heard of them).

This is our favourite bike ride each year, from Niagara-On-The-Lake to The Falls and back!! Either Spring of Fall - during the week is best to avoid the crowds, cut off the The Parkway at the Helicopter Rides (stop lights) and ride through the town of Niagara Falls to Clifton Hill, then back down to the river (much safer!!). About 52km round trip... pack a lunch & enjoy the Falls!!

We attended an ice wine festival in NOTL and so loved The Hare Cabernet Franc ice wine that we drove to the winery to purchase a bottle. So glad we did. From the nicely appointed buildings; the open spacious tasting room, and the super friendly and knowledgeable staff( thank you Andrea) we had a great time and ended up adding a few more bottles to our purchase( an easy drinking Jack Rabbit Rose and Frontier Pinot Grigio). We look forward to visiting again!

Great place to learn more about the British experience in the War of 1812! Musicians, "troops" drilling in period costume, cannons, one original building and plenty of other realistically reconstructed buildings with detailed histories. Don't miss the musket firing drill! Kids loved it.

We were at a wedding reception on a Saturday, not too long ago at the Konzelmann Estate Winery, situated on The Niagara on the Lakes. “Wine is at the heart of everything we do" is their motto. There were quite a few small group gathering for similar functions or other important events. Shuttle staff driving us to and from the Gazebo were polite, courteous and customer service oriented. The view of the gazebo situated on the shores of Lake Ontario with the skyline of Toronto as backdrop is just stunning. Inside the winery, we had the pleasure of the wine tasting experience accompanied with a buffet of charcuterie and cheeses. Donna, our wine consultant, took us through an adventure going through the history of the vineyard and starting us with an exquisite white wine and finishing up with a full bodied red. Both wine were exceptionally good as they tickle our palate with such delicate fragrance. You can feel how passionate and well documented Donna was as she entertained us from start to finish. A true wine artist. They have a large selection of wine at their store and it would be hard to resist not buying any. Overall, a must attend experience.
