Thandwe ("Thandway" in Arakanese)(Burmese: သံတွဲမြို့; MLCTS: samtwai: mrui. [θàɴdwɛ́ mjo̰]; formerly Sandoway) is a town and major seaport in Rakhine State, the westernmost part of Myanmar. Thandwe is very ancient, and is said to have been at one time the capital of Rakhine State, then called Arakan. The district has an area of 3,784 square miles (9,800 km). The country is mountainous, the Arakan Mountains sending out spurs which reach the coast. Some of the peaks in the north attain 4,000 and more ft. The streams are only mountain torrents to within a few miles of the coast; the mouth of the Khwa forms a good anchorage for vessels of from 9 to 10 ft (3.0 m). draught. The rocks in the Arakan Range and its spurs are metamorphic, and comprise clay, slates, ironstone and indurated sandstone; towards the south, ironstone, trap and rocks of basaltic character are common; veins of steatite and white fibrous quartz are also found. Between 1961 and 1990, the mean annual rainfall was 5,323 millimetres (209.6 in). Except a few acres of tobacco, all the cultivation is rice.

What an wonderful experience. We were picked up on time by the owner Aung Aung which then took us to the property where we met three Elephants, the baby, her mom and sister. We first bathed them in a muddy bath, after we cleaned our selves, we went to their playground, walked through the forest, fed them and spent time with them, such well-behaved Elephants, well the little one was a bit cheeky. We continued to walk up the forest to a high point climbed into a tree house (a little bit scary) and watched the sunset , it was so beautiful and peaceful. Aung Aung explained a lot about the Elephants and you can ask him loads of question, on top, he is a very good photographer. Once the evening is over, he will send you all the beautiful pictures. Come Once Come Again. Well Done Aung Aung.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I have time for on last massage before I leave. Great value for money too and comes with a refreshing cup of lemon grass and ginger tea. Great

Stay at Pristine Mermaid Hotel as best hotel and location on the beach and the beach massages are to die for! Avoid Hilton area as quite a lot of stones and either end of the beach where Pristine is more for backpackers and has a fishing village at south of beach which sadly has a lot of litter.
