Atmospheric, interesting, part pub part shop. Was glad they told me their reluctance to accept cash was due to C19 rather than the awful modern idea of a cashless society. As regards my special interest, Sandford Orchards Devon Scrumpy (6%) is an archetype of peoples idea of a Devon cider: dark yellow and cloudy. It would be nice to also have a clear, sharper tasting one from a different Devon producer: Winkleigh Sams dry would do for me.

Such a fabulous renovation of an historic and iconic building, now hosting the town's museum. We were guided throughout our visit by the lovely Val, who was both informative and passionate about Newton Abbot and actively encouraged us to emerse ourselves in the whole sensory experience. Our son especially loved the interactive railway history and wants a return visit, top marks for a 10 year old! Thank you to all who made this a reality.

Stover Country Park contains over 114 acres of woodland, heathland, grassland, lake and marsh and a substantial variety of wildlife. It is a site of special scientific interest meaning it is protected by law to conserve its wildlife and geology. The Park features a Nature Interpretation Centre which is situated near the entrance of the park and consists of a visitor centre, classroom, rangers’ office and public toilets. Additional recreation resources include interpretation boards, aeriel walkway, a bird hide, a car park and picnic areas. There is also a wealth of historical interest. Stover Country Park is owned and managed by Devon County Council
We visited on a Sunday in mid November. It was lovely to walk around the lake in the autumn warm sunshine, surrounded by beautiful tall trees that are wearing their golden, orange and red coats. We loved a leisurely Sunday walk in the park, breathing sweet scented air, watching and feeding ducks and swans, and observing squirrels from the special aireal walkway observation platform. So, take your kids, grannies and dogs, put on your wellies, pack up your lunch, and head to the stover park for a a weekend afternoon out with your family. And don’t forger a loaf of bread to feed the ducks and swans, and nuts for squirrels! Also the ducks love sunflower seeds as we have discovered today! Enjoy the photos that I have posted here. A traditional cider bar selling mainly Cider, Perry, Fruit Wine & Mead. The building itself dates back to circa 1744, and affiliated with the sale of cider since the 1900's, a visit to Ye Olde Cider Bar is a step back in time. An historic landmark of Newton Abbot and popular with locals as well as visitors from the UK and across the world. We stock a fantastic array of around 30 ciders, sourced from local & independent cider producers, as well as some well known favourites from Thatchers and Westons. With a great choice on offer, there is sure to be a cider to suit everyone! We also offer over 30 fruit wines & meads. Delicious by themselves or very popular as a cooler! Our cider cocktails are a big hit! For non-cider/wine drinkers we have a local lager and some spirits. If you find your favourite - we also offer cider and wine to 'take-away'! Bar snacks - Cheese and Ham Rolls - Hot Pies and Pasties - Pork pies - Off sales
My partner and I are touring pubs in the heritage pub guide. We were told about the cider bar by friendly strangers in the Luppitt Inn near Honiton last year. We booked a table through Facebook and arrived at 7:45. The pub is very spacious and has an old time feel. There is a lovely bar area with hanging glasses and large barrels. We spent a couple of hours here on a Tuesday drinking specialist ciders and fruit wines. The lady working behind the bar was an absolute gem and made some great recommendations. We were made to feel very welcome and would definitely return.

WELCOME TO AUSTINS Austins is an independent department store in Newton Abbot, Devon. Handsome, inspiring and pleasant to walk around – like all good department stores should be. We’re very proud of our heritage and, as a family-run business, we’re exceptionally proud of the store today and what it has become from its humble beginnings. Come and spend the day with us, we think you’ll find more than you expected.
This is an excellent department store. So often I have trailed round Exeter looking for a special outfit only to be disappointed but then I fall back on Austin's in my home town and wondered why I bothered looking anywhere else. Traditional service but modernised stores all within a few minutes of each other. The toy shop is one of the best in Devon and there is a good range of clothing and homewares for all tastes. Sensibly priced too.

We've been here twice now, once after work riding from Stover to Bovey Tracey and back after work one evening on a week day. We arrived at about 1630 and were leaving by 1800hrs. There weren't many other people on the trail so it was a very peaceful way to wind down after a busy day. We returned on bank holiday Sunday and rode from Stover to Newton Abbot then to Bovey Tracey before returning to Stover. The trail was very busy, particularly heading to Newton Abbot with lots of groups of cyclists and families with young children learning to ride. Everyone was extremely polite and courteous, which meant it didn't matter that it was busy. When we got to Bovey Tracey we found the recreation ground and sat on a picnic table in the sun enjoying our lunch and people watching. The ride itself isn't the longest, we rode for about 1hour 30mins but lots of that was slow riding exploring little turn offs on the trail, so if you were just cycling without looking around the ride would be over much quicker. The time and distance was perfect for our day though. The trail will certainly be one to return to in the future when we only have a couple of hours. The trail was clean and overall litter free too which is always nice.

Full credit to the staff, doing a Stirling job. Must sanitise, must sign in. The door staff were literally attempting to herd sheep as the generation of 18-30 evidently have no intention of adhering to social distancing rules or measures. Hugging, kisssing, larking around, swapping tables, passing drinks.... shouting, the list was endless. The Farmer have done their utmost to make this work... all tables clearly marked with only 6 per table, chairs screwed down so no one can move them. They truly have tried hard, much harder than many other establishments. But.... despite their efforts and that of the amazing door staff, the 18-30 have clearly not realised, accepted or cared that we are still in the middle of a pandemic. So if we get another lockdown.... you can simply blame the 18-30's - shame. We wont be back any time soon, not because we dont love this pub, we do... but I am a bit worried that I will catch covid! Hats off to the staff at the Jolly Farmer, including your amazing door staff. You really do deserve a medal

We prebooked which is advisable. We all had a mixed roast which consisted of all the meats. When it arrived it was a massive plateful lots of meat and plenty of various veg. Even the small portion had plenty of everything. It was fantastic value. We were so full we couldn't manage dessert. It's the best roast, all homemade for miles.
