These falls were MUCH better for swimming than Screw Auger, but the walk was much, much longer and steeper. What I read was that this was a 0.5 mile (one way) easy walk to the falls; it seemed a lot longer than 0.5 mile, and the path was quite uphill with a lot of rocks and root; it would probably be "easy" for a family with energetic kids, but it was not at all easy for my in-laws, who are 80+ years old. And the last 1/10 mile getting from the lower to upper falls is really uphill and seemed much longer than 1/10 mile. BUT, the six teens we had with us had a great time. Several actually left the path at their first opportunity and walked/hopped up the river, and everyone had a great time in the swimming area. There were some cute features that functioned like waterslides (slide down in the water on your butt through a channel), and some deep spots that could be jumped into. We did this area before Screw Auger, and when the kids saw what the Screw Auger area had to offer, they thought Screw Auger was pretty lame. Would definitely recommend, but wish we had known what the “walk” was like to get to it.

Sunday River Country Club's wide fairways, dynamic green settings, pristine playing conditions and jaw-dropping alpine views combine to form what architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr. calls his “mountain golf masterpiece.” GOLF Magazine agrees, consistently naming Sunday River to its "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." ranking each year the list is published. Golfweek Magazine has consistently named Sunday River the #1 Course in Maine.
Had the pleasure of golfing here on a recent Friday afternoon and it was an amazing experience. Everyone in the clubhouse is friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Many of the holes offer amazing views of the surrounding mountains and tee boxes where you feel like you’re hitting down into a valley. Makes it feel like your drives are in the air forever! The carts are modern electric ones with a braking system well suited for the numerous steep cart paths (very helpful to have them explain it before you start). The course itself is in great shape with fairways and greens nicely maintained. It’s a mountain course so it’s challenging but quite fair; my handicap is 18 and I found the course to be very enjoyable. Make sure you stop in for a bite after the round, the food at the clubhouse is awesome with very healthy sized portions (highly recommend the cranberry chicken salad sandwich). All in all, a great day of golf and not very crowded so I was able to play at a good pace while still enjoying the spectacular views and conditions. Will definitely be back!
