What to do and see in New York, United States: The Best Dams

February 2, 2022 Emerita Lamoureux

New York State has it all – booming metropolises, majestic waterfalls, mountains, wine country, chicken wings. Yes, NYC is a magnet for tourists, but an exploration of the rest of the state can be equally thrilling. The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a vision of serene waters, quaint B&Bs, and pretty vineyards. Movie buffs will love Rochester, home of the George Eastman House and one of the world’s most comprehensive film archives. On your way to Niagara Falls, stop in Buffalo to fuel up on spicy wings.

This is a hidden gem the waterfall is beautiful once you go over the bridge there's a beautiful waterfall right there is a perfect area to have a picnic they have a barbecue grill right there they have a nice walking trail they have a river trail and the trail that would take you over a nice bridge in a walking trail is like you walking in the forest. It's something you must see before the end of the summer I will definitely go again

Kensico Dam Plaza

I've discovered this dam / park There are so many to see the architecture of this dam, 911 Memorial and the view from the top of the dam is magnificent ,. It was formed by the old earth and gravel dam, built in 1885, which impounded waters from the Bronx and Byram rivers, and supplied about 18 million gallons daily.[1] The construction of a new masonry dam in 1915, replaced the old dam, and expanded the water supply by bringing water from the Catskill Mountains over a distance of more than 100 miles. People are jogging running riding on bicycle, picnic all kinds of activity..It's just fan to watch while you enjoy your relaxing at the same time. Safe place! Has bathroom vending machines,, Ice cream truck Just fan and you should try to go up on the dam. It's lots of staircase I think at least more than 140 steps to walk up LOL Good for you anyway! Top of dam is beautiful!

You can stop at the Visitors Center and just gaze at the dam or you can stay long enough to take a tour which I highly recommend. Videos and display in the Center give you the history but the up close look on the tour makes it feel real. Corps of Engineer guides are knowledgeable and happy to answer questions.
