New Town is a city in Mountrail County, North Dakota in the United States. The population was 1,925 in 2010 census. New Town was platted in 1950 as a replacement site for the residents of Sanish and Van Hook, as these towns were scheduled to be flooded by the creation of Lake Sakakawea, a reservoir to provide water for irrigation.

We crossed Lake Sakakawea going north from Bismarck and then headed west, eventually getting to New Town and Crow Flies High Butte. The views along the way were beautiful. Lots of prairie and open wide open spaces, hardly any cars along the way. We did run into road construction, though, so be aware that you might too. When we got to Crow Flies High Butte, we realized that this was the big payoff for going north of Lake Sakakawea instead of south. The view is stunning. It was quite windy, but we had the spot all to ourselves late in the afternoon and it was very special. If you can get there, don't miss it.

This is an impressive looking bridge over the Missouri River, on highway 23 between New Town and 4 Bears Lodge and Casino. The bridge is just under a mile long (4500 ft.) which makes it the second largest bridge in ND. It was named after two chiefs. There are medallions on the bridge representing three tribes. There is interesting information on the internet regarding the building of the bridge, New Town and the reservoir named Lake Sakakawea.

This home to several Indian tribes offers history, culture and casinos.
I've been to the 4 Bears Casino there for some concerts in the Summer of 2006 and they had some Pow-Wows going on too. The Tribal leaders there had some good manners. They were concerned about the welfare of their cutomers and they made me feel comfortable.

Food was great American variety food, bar on one side and restaurant on other staff was very friendly even sat and chatted with us like we were old friends. I personally like homey friendly staff, salad bar was a little lean but good. Just be aware oil boom is very strong in this area and if you are uncomfortable with working class people you may be uncomfortable. Most of people working in this area are from around the country

There is a great selection of giftware - handcrafted jewellery (including Montana Silversmith), clothing (t-shirts, sweatshirts, outerwear) and accessories (handbags, hats, gloves, scarves), bedding (bed sets, blankets and beautiful quilts), food products produced in North Dakota, plus snacks and drinks. There is something for everyone and for all budgets. There are large display windows and two entrances -- one entrance accessible from the buffet and the cafe. Another entrance is from a hallway with access to the casino and lobby/registration area.

Was very impressed with the new facility built for events, was very nice and music sounded great. Service for drinks and such was good and entrance into and out of the event was very smooth. after the concert the casino was very busy and was difficult to get a drink or play a machine but understandable based on the size of the crowd the concert drew. Overall very satisfied

This roadside attraction is in serious need of a paint job. Paint is peeling off the entire attraction. It does not currently look like this picture. With construction right now, you can't stop and take pictures or read sign. This is in desperate need of an update. Would like to see it again after that happens.

I visited this museum on a Tuesday morning. An old Hidatsa woman greeted me cheerfully and was very helpful. The collection was extremely rich and much of it was half a century or more old. If you want learn about Arikara, Mandan, or Hidatsa culture, this is the place to go.
