With German names on the street signs, summer bier gartens and the annual Wurstfest, New Braunfels blends the character of its German namesake with the charm and beauty of Texas Hill Country. Old World heritage is abundant in the Historic District of Gruene, featuring the ruins of the original Gristmill and live music at the Gruene Hall. Those in search of more modern fun can check out the Schlitterbahn waterpark, spelunk in the Natural Bridge Caverns or test the waters at Canyon Lake.

The oldest dance hall in Texas.
Gruene Hall was offering live music by "The Georges". Music was 50's - 70's rock and country. Beautiful covers of Elvis, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, Waylon, etc. Drop in, pop a top on a long neck, kick back and enjoy the music of yesteryear. Enjoy!

Historical store that still operates as a general gift store. Lots of Texas items, gourmet foods, fudge, nostalgic candy, t-shirts, mugs, caps, ornaments and other gift items.
On our journey through Gruene we stopped in here and I purchased an armadillo sink strainer plus two Texas themed children’s books. Store is loaded with gift items. Inside is very cute plus they have a Penny smasher!!

I decided to continue my solo wine tasting weekend at the Dry Comal Creek Vineyards. Due to Covid-19, there is reserved tasting times outside underneath beautiful oak trees. Please call ahead. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Look on website for live music and food carts dates and times. I would suggest grabbing a bottle of wine and unwind underneath these beautiful trees solo or with friends. Cheers!!

My kids love this place! We’ve been coming since my oldest was walking, and usually buy the annual pass. The grocery store and outside water area are usually where we spend most of our time. I’ve never had a bad experience.

Interesting insight into early settlers' life. Docent gave a very interstitial g commentary. Especially the story of DNA evidence for 3-4 pieces of furniture being made from one tree!

Not only is the staff (Brandy & Johnny) a reason to visit this wine bar, the wine is very good! A professed “wine snob”, I have yet to find a wine from the South that my palate enjoys (and matches the price tag). I was first doubtful, then surprised and oh so pleased to try several glasses of various offerings at this quaint shop. So happy with the choices I sampled, that I took a half-case home with me. My only regret was not being in town long enough to make my own batch of wine with a personal label attached! The perfect gifts for weddings, house warming’s and holidays! Brandy, thank you, Johnny & Amanda for your friendly welcome and wonderful wines! I will definitely be returning on my next trip!
