What to do and see in National Capital Territory of Delhi, National Capital Territory of Delhi: The Best Food & Drink

July 18, 2021 Enedina Augsburger

With stray monkeys, dogs and cows strolling the streets, you'll know you're in Dehli. Beyond these distractions, rich culture, fascinating history and architecture beckon. Temples and old moghul buildings cram crowded streets, best negotiated by motorized tut-tut or hired car and driver. Shopping bargains abound, particularly at Chandni Chowk, and restaurants favor vegetarians. Attractions include the towering Qutab Minar minaret, UNESCO World Heritage Site Lal Qila (Red Fort) and the vast Friday Mosque.

Slum Walks In Delhi (Providing Education To Everyone)

Ever interested in how people survive and live their life in slums? This walk is organised by a local NGO and registered non-profit organization called PETE India (Providing Education to Everyone). 100% of the proceeds go to support our projects. Participants will accompany a guide through the maze of small streets and alleys of a 5.5 hectare slum in West Delhi for 2 hours. He will show you how millions of people live their lives in the slums of Delhi each day. While in the slum, you'll have the opportunity (if you wish) to have traditional tea with a family during which they can share their personal story of survival and life in the slums. You will visit the three schools that your donations directly support and meet the students and teachers. The aim of this walk is not to "visit" or make poverty a "tourist attraction", but is to exchange experiences with people, allowing the locals a rare opportunity to interact with foreigners if they wish.

Cooking with Neha was a wonderful way to experience Indian cuisine. She is an excellent teacher with a warm and welcoming personality, and will make you feel at ease from the moment you step into her beautiful home. Her attention to detail really shines through — from the way she lays out ingredients and utensils in advance so you can focus on cooking, to the beautiful recipe booklet she gifts every participant at the end of class. Cooking with her not only taught us how to layer spices for maximum flavor, but gave us insight into Indian culture and lifestyle. Plus, the location gave us an excellent excuse to visit the pretty Hauz Khas neighborhood, which we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. All in all, an excellent way to spend a day in Delhi, and I can’t wait to recreate those recipes at home!
