One of Chitwan's best secrets, a quiet jungle full of creatures and only 200npr each. Saw a lot more here than a whole days safari in the National Park - boar, chital & sambar deer, mongoose and a rhino plus numerous birds. Do it by bicycle for a full immersion day out where you can enjoy the sights, smells & sounds - and get off the road for goodness sake! 500npr bike hire from Sauraha, reasonable fitness required, the highlight of 5 days in Chitwan province.

The mist on the river was entrancing as we were paddled down the river in dug out canoes. We had two good guides with us who knew every bird and beast, though we saw only a few due to the mist. The jungle walk back in small groups of 6 was lovely and tranquil, though again we saw little by way of animal life - it was winter which might have made the animals scarcer. All in all a couple of hours of gentle, quiet pleasure which was my favourite out of various activities we did round here. You finished the trip by crossing the river directly back to the start point on a similar canoe to the first journey. Realistically on a good day you might see the odd monkey, deer, boar, crocodile and rhino, together with lots of birds.

River rafting was included as part of our 15 days Mardi Himal trekking tour. It was great fun and has helped broken the ice for us with other members of our tour group as we have to work together under expert guidance to help steered the raft along the river. Delicious lunch was also included, we ate like starved refugees, partly because of the energy exerted. Highly recommended if travelling between Kathmandu and Pokhara.

The Chitwan National Park offers a variety of flora and fauna. Do not miss the jeep safari and especially the elephant safari. We were lucky to see a few rhinos, Gharial crocodiles, peacock, wild bore, spotted deer, buck deer, and lots of amazing colourful birds. The elephant safari was a memory to be cherished for the rest of your life. It's adventurous and thrilling. The elephant bathing was a fun too. You are allowed to go round the buffer zone of the forest only.

Very interesting place where you can find more about the Tharu community's history and culture. Daily objects, paintings and explanations are exhibited along with photos. This complete work gives a very rich knowledge about the Tharus. The museum is not only a place where things are showed, it is also a research center where researchers of the whole world come to give their contributions and learn more. It is thus involved in the life of the community and the preservation of its culture. 2 big assets : the persons who work at the museum are very friendly, and for those who want to dig the topic, articles are available :).

I stayed at Tiger Residency for 3 nights and 4 days. From the moment I arrived, the staff were extremely friendly and kind, the resort soon began to feel like family. The food was excellent, a variety of western and Nepali food. The service was 5 star, with the staff always asking if I needed anything. The only issue I had was with my nature guide, however I took this up with management as I left (I chose not to do anything about it during my stay as the rest of the resort was 100%!) and I trust they will make improvements moving forward. This was no reflection on the resort and was purely a personal issue. My suggestions for improvement would be communication with guests. Letting them know if there is no power (my aircon didn’t work) or of certain activities aren’t available (I was told elephant bath wasn’t possible... however they later made this happen!). Tiger residency was very impressive and despite the small issue I had with the guide, I would 100% recommend this resort to everyone. The staff were the highlight, they treated each other like family which was so welcoming. I can’t wait to come back!

One of the best thing of Sauraha is ' Chitwan Tharu Village' - Where Cultural meets with Wild Animals. - People Lifestyle. - Relationship between people and Wild Animals. - Cultural. - Festival. - Language. - Dress. - Marriage Ceremony. -Breeding. - Funeral Ceremony .
While in Chitwan, we were invited by Mr. Arjun, the Manager of Chitwan Tiger Camp, in the evening for a Tharu Cultural Program. It was a wonderful experience. You could see the Tharu lifestyle through this cultural program. Next morning, while on our way to the jungle safari, we crossed the Tharu Village and our guide gave us a glipse of the Tharu village along with their lifestyle. Very nice.
