Known as the safari capital of Africa, Nairobi is an energetic, modern city that serves as a fascinating introduction to both wildlife and nightlife. Music clubs pulse with life, shops and markets bustle, and a mélange of restaurants will tempt your palate in this former Maasai watering hole. Top sights include the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Centre and the black rhinos of Nairobi National Park. The compact city center is safe to walk in and taxis make other areas accessible.

The crater rim also provides great scenic views across the beautiful Rift Valley all the way to Lake Naivasha. In Mount Longonot National Park, set out on the 4-mile (6.4-kilometer), round-trip hike to the edge of the crater, with the option to extend the hike an additional 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers), walking all the way around the crater rim. Amboseli is set on the Kenyan plains with Mt Kilimanjaro as a backdrop in the distance, the park is world-famous for its substantial population of African Elephants which can be seen in herds of over 100 individuals. In particular the large bull elephants have some of the largest tusks in the animal kingdom. Also to be spotted are ample herds of buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and impala, as well as giraffes and warthog. With all this variety you can be sure a healthy population of predators also call Amboseli home. Lions, leopards, caracals, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas and serval cats are all frequently seen in the park.

I was lucky enough to find Julius of Wasili Kenya Safaris and I am so very glad I did. I have traveled to two parks with him including Nairobi National Park and Amboseli National Park on a different trip. After my first trip with Julius, I realized what an incredible and knowledgeable safari guide he was and was lucky enough to book with him an overnight trip to Amboseli. He knew everything answer to every question I had, he knew where to find the animals and where they would be at dawn and dusk. Julius always position his vehicle so that I would have the best view and photo opportunity. I have amazing photographs and fantastic memories of these trips, thanks to Julius. Needless to say, I highly recommend him and Wasili and can’t wait to return to Kenya to travel with Julius again. Thank you Julius for an trip, I will never forget.

Just a short drive from the heart of Nairobi, Kiambethu Farm at Limuru provides a tranquil insight into life on a settler farm. Situated at 7,200 ft., Kiambethu was bought and farmed by AB McDonell in 1910. He was the first person to grow, make and sell tea commercially in Kenya – now one of Kenya’s biggest exports. Five generations have lived on the farm and it is currently run by his granddaughter Fiona Vernon. The farm house is set within beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest – home to the Colobus monkey and plenty of other wildlife.

Half day Nairobi National Park game tour and giraffe sanctuary, organised through Peter, with driver Alex. A wonderful experience, picked up promptly, safe driver and vehicle, knowledgeable.and knew where to find the animals. The various drivers stopped to tell each other where the sightings were, so we even managed to spot the group of 8 lions, which were breathtaking. Also stopped at the giraffe sanctuary and a Masai restaurant for lunch. Thoroughly recommend.
