If you are a history buff, don’t miss this 90 minute tour. Learned more about the Groton/New London area during this tour than in all my years in school.

I would definitely call this a moderate hike We started at the lower parking lot and walked up the hill on Wolf Den Road up until the 3rd trail which led us directly to Table Rock. he trail continued well marked with some steep inclines and declines till the end. It was a fun morning!

The panoramic views of this expansive location was just what we needed for a different visual during the pandemic. The property has acres of gardens, groves and vast lawns. Everything was clean and neat. Birding can also be enjoyed at almost every area of the park. Can't wait to come back when the gardens are in full bloom.

Mansfield Hollow State Park

This fantastic park has lots to do: hiking, fishing, boating, biking, etc. It's also a beautiful place to relax, picnic, and generally hang out. The hiking trails accommodate a variety of abilities, so no pressure to take a difficult trail. I once took a class here where the instructor walked us through the park and pointed out various plants that could be used medicinally (like ginger or aloe).

Rocky Neck State Park

It is a beautiful beach where green meets the blue! Best part for us was that there are picnic areas just above the beach with great scenery and fire-pans. And there is a large camping ground just behind the beach. Beach is very close and easy to reach from the parking area. There is an oceanfront boardwalk. Also, there are fee beach wheelchairs available. It was very relaxing having a picnic watching over the kids playing and listening to the mixed sounds of waves, breeze, children and boats.

Its your choice how long you want to stay here, you could stay all day, or just go on a quick 1 hour hike. Theres a lot to choose from. There are various points around the park to park your car and meet at a trail head. I would download the trailmaps head if its your first time so you dont get lost. Some trail heads have parking lots, but some will have street parking. If you are not at the main entrance, I did not see a bathroom in other parking lots.

Hopeville Pond State Park

Reviewed By QQ2008

I grew up in Griswold and my mom is still there, so when we went looking for a place to camp near Mom, this was one of several options. The others are commercial campgrounds, but we enjoy boondocking, so Hopeville was our choice. After reading some of the reviews on TA, I was worried about people partying all night with no staff to quiet them, about the campground being a mess, etc. I'm happy to report that we were so pleasantly surprised and impressed that we went back two weekends later! Our campsite was huge, level, picturesque and relatively bug free. We were right next to a lily pond and thought for sure we'd be running from mosquitos all day. I don't know if they spray this place or what, but we had NO problem with insects! This campground is a kids' paradise. There are a couple of sites right across from the little campground beach, so families who camp there can watch their kids in the water without leaving their sites. The campground is small enough that it would be hard for the kids to get lost, and they were riding around and around on bikes with headlights in the dark. Great fun! We are 60-something retirees now with no grandkids to take camping, but the kids didn't bother us at all. As a matter-of-fact, both weekends we encountered nothing but nice families and well-behaved children. I had a conversation with one of the rangers at the office, and she told me that sometimes they get unruly people, but, really, that is true anywhere these days, unfortunately. There is a large sign with a number for the local state police, and she said if there is any issue at night after the staff is gone and police are called, they do respond right away. Also, she said usually when there is a noise complaint at night, it's usually easy for them to deal with it ... alcohol is prohibited from the campground, and if alcohol is found the people are immediately ejected. Anyway, we didn't have any problem with noise. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, and we found that to be true during both of our stays. Oh, also, this is a great pond for kayaking or canoeing. Some of the sites right on the water have paths allowing you to put-in right from your site! Huge bath house, too (although we didn't use it). Anyway, we loved our stays at Hopeville!
