The most beautiful cave in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest, Cave of the Mounds lies just off U.S. Highways 18/151 in Blue Mounds, WI. The United States Department of the Interior and the National Park Service designated Cave of the Mounds a National Natural Landmark because the site possesses "exceptional value as an illustration of the nation's natural heritage and contributes to a better understanding of man's environment". Curious tourists and budding cave enthusiasts have been enjoying an introduction to caving in the midwest for years while visiting Cave of the Mounds. Commonly referred to as the "jewel box" of America's major caves for the variety and delicacy of its formations, Cave of the Mounds is recognized by the Chicago Academy of Sciences as "the significant cave of the upper Midwest".
My husband and I had a great time visiting this cave! We attended a “Cave After Dark” event which featured 6 Wisconsin wine and cheese pairings that you could try while walking along the cave tour route at your own pace. The event was only for adults 21 and older, which was enjoyable. There was a jazz group playing in the visitors center to start the night, and we were also allowed to bring cameras with tripods to take pictures in the cave at our leisure. The caves are not the most impressive we have ever seen, but there are some neat formations; the path goes through some narrow areas so those who are afraid of tight spaces might get a little freaked out! The employees who we encountered at every step (serving drinks in the visitors center, checking us in, serving wine and cheese) were all unfailingly friendly and talkative. We had fun trying the delicious wine and cheese and I took some great pictures. At the end of the night, I cracked a geode in the gift shop and went home with a gorgeous souvenir.

On a perfect Fall day late in September, we decided to pull off of Highway 151 onto County K near Barneveld to renew acquaintances at the Botham tasting room. Despite its proximity to this busy thoroughfare , the vineyard property remains secluded and peaceful. We had no plan to purchase a lot of wine. We had recently acquired all the wine we needed for a 5 course charity dinner form other locations. We chose to taste 3 for free, each of which we had not sampled before. We were impressed and purchased the 10 wine tasting for $6. We liked 3 whites, Driftless,Vin10 and the desert wine, Finis.. After trying these wines with our salad and desert courses, We liked the Driftless and Finis well enough to use them. The staff was very helpful, giving us the opportunity to re-taste several of the wines and answer our grape and blending questions.
We didn't have time to linger on the deck with other visitors, but look forward to doing so. Recommended.

I have been purchasing products online from this company for years, and have always been happy with the quality of the clothing and the customer service. When I had the opportunity recently, while traveling through Wisconsin, to actually shop in one of the stores I had to go. The Mount Horeb store has a nice floor plan, and it's a clean and tidy store. The men's department is much larger than the women's but I think as more women discover the quality of Duluth Trading clothing the selections will increase. The sales staff were friendly and informative. The products are not inexpensive but with Duluth Trading you get your bang for your buck! I wish I had a retail store near me!

We enjoy going to different parks for hiking trails as a family and staying active. After reading many other reviews (and being a mile away from Cave of the Mounds, which was a nice addition to our trip too), we decided to make a trip over to Blue Mounds. The park was extremely large, well maintained, and busy but by no means crowded. We enjoyed knowing that we would see people in passing on the trails, but that there was ample parking and seclusion as well when hiking as a family and not being immediately surrounded by other visitors. We climbed both look out towers and hiked three of the trails as a family of five (with three kids under 8) - and all had a great visit. Looking forward to coming back in the future, and may take advantage of swimming in the pool (only state park, I believe, in WI that has a pool rather than a lake). Great views, lots to take is as trails can be cut grass, dirt paths or hiking rocks/roots trails.

Ski and snowboard recreation area offers 17 runs, the longest of which is 2,600 feet, with a 300' vertical drop, 3 triple chairlifts, rope and cable tows. Tyrol Basin's terrain park was voted number 1 in the Midwest by the Transworld Snowboarding Magazine resort poll.
Being myself a ski beginner, I went to Tyrol Basin since it is minutes drive from where I was staying.
But it was night.
I could not find a lighted green trail, and in the end, it was not a great experience.
However, lifts are OK, no lines, equipment rental was OK too; will give it a try next season. But during the day.
Improvement items: Better identify the trails.

I discovered this lovely tea shop while walking through Mt. Horeb. They had some black chai tea samples on the sidewalk and after tasting it, I had to go in the building and find what else was available. The shelves are lined with large tins of tea, sorted by green, black, and white. along with blends (try the pecan black tea which smells chocolaty). She also has a section with some herbs/spices that are commonly used for tea or mixed into blends, like chamomile, cinnamon and such. Near each canister is a small tin that you can open, smell, and examine, which resulted in my buying some I didn't plan on and avoiding others that the names sounded good but which I knew from the odor I would not like (I don't like the smokey smelling teas). I purchased 4, including the black chai I had tasted out front. Additionally, her canisters are labeled with the ingredients, type of tea, and if caffeinated or not, which I really appreciated. Purchases can be made in the amount you want. She also provides a guide on how to properly brew the types of tea. There are interesting tea pots and related items for sale.
She sells some coffees and food items - sandwiches, tartines, salads, spring rolls. Their website has a menu. She was advertising a painting party and they have a game night. This is a new business and I suspect there will be more events.
Erin was quite personable and late afternoon mid-week there were only a couple of customers. We ended up all talking which was fun, as I am a solo traveler. Erin enjoys people and if I lived nearby I would be stopping daily for the tea, coffee, and conversation. Tea also makes a great gift, summer or winter. I highly recommend stopping in here if you are in the Mt. Horeb area. I was so impressed with the tea that if she does mail order, I will be throwing away my Stash Tea catalogs.

This "attraction" is more like visiting a friend's farm. The owners have a farm where they raise sheep and a few other animals. We took our 3 year old grandchild and grown daughters and I don't know who had more fun! For $8 one gets to pet and feed the animals, ride a pony, climb on hay and play in a corn box and sit on a tractor. It's set up very well, but not like "Disneyland"....more down to earth. The owners are rightly proud of their farm and like to share it with others and take a personal interest in seeing that you are welcome. I'm not certain they are open year round, as we were there in spring when the lambs were just born.
