What’s a Black Ankle Winery? We were blown away with this hidden gem nestled in Carroll County. Easy to get to (trust Waze) Great parking and wonder surroundings. We had arranged a fire pit at our table - COVID responsible- easy ordering of wine delivered to your table. Totally Impressed - wine, staff, facilities and views.

We visited this much recommended brewery last week on a last minute decision! It was a lovely Friday evening, and we had heard the local astronomy club would have telescopes set up to do solar and planet observing. (Clouds obscured the planets Jupiter and Venus, but the moon was beautifully seen through the powerful telescopes) Usually the brewery closes at 8PM on Fridays, but they were going to serve beer ti 9PM because of the special event. We first tried a flight of 6 different beers (these change periodically) and liked the Heffeweizen a lot; indulged in a pint before they closed. The brewery sits atop a nice hill, there were plenty of friendly people and the owner and head brewer were available to chat with. In the summer there is a food truck on Fridays, and Saturdays features live music. Would strongly recommend this to go out into beautiful rural Frederick County in Maryland (about an hour drive from Baltimore). Go with friends, do drive carefully because the 2 mile drive from the main highway is quite narrow in places and has many curves to negotiate.

We decided to visit a local winery when a friend came to visit, searching online my wife found that Loew's Vineyards had tastings for only 8$ each, and the glass was included. The tasting room is small but cozy and the owner and the woman who led our tasting were very friendly and welcoming. The most amazing thing to me is that all three of us enjoyed every single one of the wines we tasted to some degree. My wife does not care for red wine in the slightest and even she like some of their "drier" wines. We bought a few bottles for ourselves and as gifts, and I plan to come back in the future.
