The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra “In the land of Moscow and all over the world there is no other monastery equal to this one…” - Archdeacon Paul of Aleppa
One of the highlights of our trip to Russia, (my wife’s and myself, her sister, and my brother in law) was without any doubt our trip to the Golden Ring and especially to The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra church in the city of Sergiev Posad which is considered to be one of the most important religious centers in Russia and a pilgrimage site especially to believers in Orthodox Christianity. Since we arrived with our “private” guide who had “pre-arranged” personal guidance for us, so we “got” a young guide from the church staff who took us under his wings and led us to all the interesting places (and they are many) throughout the site. Explained to us the history of the place from its inception to the present day. Starting from the entrance area with the arched door and the amazing frescoes on the walls and ceiling and later all the spectacular sites (and they are many). In conclusion a most amazing place NOT 2 B MISSED.

Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Mother of God made in the style of European Baroque. This style was not typical for the traditional Russian church architecture.History of the estate began in 1627, when it was owned by Boyar Morozov. His daughter married Prince Golitsyn and the estate became the possession of their family.Construction of the church was carried out from 1690 to 1698 years, and only in the summer. Unfortunately, architects are not known. Probably, they were from Italy. The church is decorated with figures of angels and saints, contrary to Orthodox tradition of building. It is magnificent. I advise you to visit it absolutely!

In Zvenigorod Museum opened "BACK in the USSR". It is a Museum of positive emotions and memories. We invite all those whose childhood was spent in the yard, one mother shouted back from the window; those who drank soda of faceted glass; ate the most delicious ice cream; those who took in the young Octobrists, the pioneers, who collected waste paper, went to "potato". And those who do not remember.

The Abramtsevo Museum is near the town of Sergiev Posad (roughly 60 kilometers northeast of Moscow). The estate is along the River Vorya and was built in the mid 18th century. The writer Sergey Aksakov purchased Abramtsevo in 1843 and is said to have created his best works there, including notes on angling, hunting and autobiographical stories. Writers Nikolay Gogol and Ivan Turgenev are also said to have visited Abramtsevo.
Abramtsevo Estate Museum is at the small village area of Abramtsevo about 60 km northeast of Moscow. It can be reached from Moscows Yaroslavl station. Note there is a new train service and times. It is on the rail line from Moscow to Sergev Posad. For us it was a great adventurous day away from Moscow after a week of grand palaces and busy city activity. The Estate is famous because of its role in the Arts and Craft Movement in Russia (similar to William Morris in the UK) I read it is open from Wednesday to Sunday, but we went on Friday and found the buildings closed though the park was fully open to wander around. However the exterior of the architecture is so interesting and beautiful that we still had a wonderful time there. There is also a lovely shop in the grounds which sells very tasteful souvenirs of the estate an beautiful crafts and art. The houses/buildings represent different styles and purposes, from elegant Mansions to beautifully wooden carved traditional cottages. These were places where famous artists came, worked and rested. I loved the beautiful little ceramic church and the little Baba Yaga (witches) hut (from the cihldren's fairytale. This place has such arts and cultural history and there is plenty on the Internet to give you background information before you go. I would advise researching so you can appreciate Abramtsevo to the full. The park is beautiful and there is a lovely circular walk through open forest, along the lake and meadows.

I lived first 17 years of my life here, in Kolomna. And during 3-4 years I played tennis at the court exactly near the Kremlin wall. Thus, I could observe how it was being chanched recently: the administration of Kolomna protect our Kremlin more and more. It is very good that the town and ppeople living there value the hystory more and more.

The Kolomna Pastila Museum (‘History with Taste’) is a unique museum that presents a rather ephemeral and elusive part of our intangible heritage: tastes, aromas, the culture of everyday life, a way of speaking… The subject of this museum is the lost-but-rediscovered taste of the apple sweetmeat Kolomna Pastila, which is known and loved across the whole of Russia. Here we’ll treat you to this old Russian delicacy and tell you about some of the local legends, traditions and habits bound up with it. You’ll hear real stories from the lives of admirers of Kolomna pastila – from simple folk to tsars and tsarinas and Russian men of genius. Come and sample a taste of history!
