The thermals in New Mexico provide some of the best glider flying conditions in the world. After being towed up for a few thousand feet by a light aircraft, one is instructed to release the tow cable and the instructor soon finds a thermal to circle inside and rapidly ascend to around 11000 feet or so, where, without supplementary oxygen, we must level off. Some gentle, or not so gentle. aerobatic maneouvres are then made before we descend back into Moriarty using the glider's dive brakes. A most interesting experience, usually of 30 or 40 minutes flying.

Arche Lewis says he has been collecting cars and toys since he was 9 years old and I don't think he has ever gotten rid of anything. This is an amazing place off I-40 a little bit east of Albuquerque. So many cars from Model Ts thru the 60's and so many toys from my childhood. Although there is no fee, he expects a donation and we felt it was well worth it.

McCall's Pumpkin Patch is one of the premier fall destinations in the US. Come enjoy our 16-acre corn maze, rated the 3rd best in the nation by 10best.com. While you are here you can take advantage of more that 20 activities included with your admission, including Peddle Cars, Cow Train, and more. In 2016 we will be opening our NEW 3,000 sq ft Princess Castle that take you to a magical place.
I was in town for the weekend and was invited to a "pumpkin patch". I took my 10 yr old daughter and thought I'd be bored. This place is AMAZING!! It had 3 corn mazes which ranged from easy to difficult, a castle, fort, racing track and a ton of activitives. We ran out of time so we weren't able to do everything. They also had a haunted house. If we are every in the area in the fall, we will definately go back with lots of time!

Customised tours leaving from Santa Fe or Albuquerque, New Mexico. One to three people, departing from your hotel.
We spent a day with Bob visiting Chaco Canyon and Pueblo Pintado from Albuquerque. We really couldn't have hoped for a better guide or a better visit. Bob is a remarkable photographer who is willing to share his expertise with novices like us. He is also a long term resident of New Mexico who has led an extremely interesting life and enlivens the trip with countless fascinating stories of
life, community, and politics in the state. We stopped at terrific places we would never have known about much less been able to find on our own. We spent about 14 hours with Bob and we loved every minute of it. We now consider him a friend.

I have been flying sailplanes for 49 years so am a bit prejudiced toward anything promoting the sport. That said, I found the US Southwest Soaring Museum to be just what I expected. If offers an introduction to the neophyte and a repository of history to those like me. This museum is one of two in the USA dedicated to motorless flight (the other is the National Soaring Museum in Elmira, NY). This museum collection is more about the homebuilt/experimental era of soaring in the US from the post WWII years to the 1980's. It will be of interest not only to the aviator but to folks who are adventurous in general. After touring head over to the Moriarty airport and take a sailplane ride, maybe you will catch the "bug" like me.
