Barcelona feels a bit surreal – appropriate, since Salvador Dali spent time here and Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed several of the city’s buildings. Stepping into Gaudí’s Church of the Sacred Family is a bit like falling through the looking glass - a journey that you can continue with a visit to Park Güell. Sip sangria at a sidewalk café in Las Ramblas while watching flamboyant street performers, then create your own moveable feast by floating from tapas bar to tapas bar.

Jardines de Joan Maragall were created at the beginning of the twentieth century for the Spanish King! The palace which is on the grounds is actually a royal residence! The gardens are really beautiful with many features including water fountains, statues, various other sculptures, numerous plants and flowers, and lots of greenery.

Park with views of Montjuic mountain.
When I am in Barcelona I do a long walk every day from Placa Espanya via Jardins Mirador del Alcade to the top of Montjuic castle through the Olympic stadium and back it’s a great walk and this little park has lovely views and is quite popular with the tourists. If you are walking up to the castle or more likely down pop in have a look it’s worth the effort

it may not be old, there may be homeless persons using it for a toiler, it may not have greenhouses, a quarter of it is still incostruction, and it is not a short walk from the subway, but i have been to enough gardens to know this garden has a world class collection from mediterranean climate zones. you can learn alot of plants here, and practically every species is labeled in catalan, spanish and english colloquial names and linnaean binomial classifications and familes and places of origin. top that off with a very affordable entrance fee, and free on first sundays. this barcelona highlight was commensurate with the famed gaudi sagrada familia cathedral. it takes at least 2 days to see it all.
