We visited this winery on our Gusto Wine Tour! This is a beautiful family run winery with excellent wines. They were very creative in coming up with unique art for their used wine barrels. We had lunch there which was superb! The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. We are now enjoying a bottle of their le tese (Umbria Bianca) at home.

Wow! After you visit Paolo and his winery, you will leave feeling like family. They take such pride in their work and treat every guest with respect and great care. We visited Paolo just after quarantine ended in Italy. We arranged a tasting and lunch to take away. They organized the entire lunch and had it well packaged when we arrived. They also created a separate menu for a vegetarian couple in the group. We had such a wonderful experience that We will be back this fall (and hopefully many times after that) Everything from the home-cooked meal by his mother, the wine and the olive oil were fantastic and high quality. Thank you Paolo and family. A presto.

Arnaldo Caprai - Viticoltore in Montefalco

My husband booked a tour and wine tasting here for our Valentine’s day trip. It was only the two of us. We started at 3 PM and spent about two hours there. Our guide was Lorenzo, a nice young sommelier who gave us a quick tour around, explaining how this winery basically introduced dry Sagrantino to the international wine stage. The tour was just touching the surface but for the first time ever we happened to see the wine bottling and it was so much fun! In the tasting room we were offered three wines (one white and two reds) with a plate of fresh bread with their own olive oil (so delicious!!!) and one plate each of cheese and meat cuts (all local, of course!). We completely fell in love with Arnaldo Caprai’s Montefalco Rosso Vigna Flaminia Maremmana 2017! From the snacks our favorite was ciauscolo (we just love it in general; it’s a soft Umbrian sausage). But everything else was great too. Then another couple entered the tasting room and while Lorenzo was busy with them we went to the terrace. It was a beautiful warm day with sun covering the vineyards and when we were done, we were recommended to go further in the field to see the viewing point that gives you a nice observation of the tiny lake nearby and the winery itself. Very charming. The wine prices are a bit above the average and they also have special edition bottles of Sagrantino with labels made specially for them by an artist, who portrays Petrarca, Dante and Giotto in modern manner, three famous figures that are painted on the fresco of the church in the town of Montefalco (the part of the sales go to its restoration).

We were staying near by, had one of the Antonelli wines for dinner and wanted to check out the winery. We dropped in with no appointment or reservation and the staff was very accommodating! We told them that we had experienced the wine the night before and had even had a recommendation from a Texas winemaker to come and check out the wine! They tasted us through the wines and the winemaker even came out and talked to us. Go check it out! I would recommend a reservation/appointment to avoid a bus tour or large group. We ordered a mixed case which was packed very well and we are enjoying back home in Texas!

Azienda Agraria Scacciadiavoli

Scacciadiavoli is one of the oldest winery in the area of Montefalco. The name can be traced back to an episode of exorcism of the 17th century, reported by Johannes de Rupescissa in the Treaty on the Quintessence. The story tells about a young woman possessed by the devil, to which an exorcist give her drink the local red wine, succeeding in drive out the devil. The event gave its name to the village, still exists, appropriately called Scacciadiavoli. In the mid-nineteenth century, Prince Ugo Boncompagni Ludovisi built the winery, which is still functional and rational; From that moment, given the monumental size of the building, the site is called Localita Cantinone (large cellar). In the middle of the twentieth century, the grandfather of the current owners, Amilcare Pambuffetti, acquired ownership of the company, which covers an area of one hundred and thirty acres, of which twenty vineyards.

Came here with some friends in December while visiting one of them (they have a house out here). This was one of her most highly recommended things to do, and I can see why. The food they put on was spectacular, the tour was fantastic and educational (I know a lot about the process and I still learned something), and the wine tasting was great. The reds are some of the best I've ever had. Can't recommend this place highly enough. If you're in the area definitely go and check it out!

Montefalco was recommended by our hosts in Spoleto as a good example of a restored walled town with adequate parking, great wine shops and cafes, and without the hassle of large tour groups. It turned out to be a perfect spot for quiet sightseeing with wonderful views across the region from the viewing area at the top of the town. Recommended.
