During our recent online cooking class with Locanda Demetra (Marta and Allesandro) we broke out a few bottles of our favorite Brunellos - all, of course, from Castello Romitorio! On several trips to the winery Daniele and staff have always been gracious and inviting, making it a favorite place to visit each time we travel to Tuscany. We thank Noemi for the introduction!! We have airline tickets to return in Sept and remain hopeful that conditions will allow the trip. For now, we hope and pray that the great folks at Romitorio are safe, healthy, surviving this tough time. And THANKS for the fantastic wine we continue to enjoy at home!

This beautiful church is all that remains of a Benedictine monastery supposedly founded in the time of Charlemagne although construction of the current church apparently started in 1118. If you look at the altar step you can see an inscription with this date. It has a lovely, stark Romanesque feel inside but it's the outside aspect that's particularly appealing. In a lovely setting surrounded by greenery it's stone seems to glow honey-like in the afternoon sun. When you reach the fork in the approach road where you should turn right turn left for a couple of hundred yards for the best distance photos before retracing your steps. What a lovely spot. We visited as part of a circle trip to Montalcino, the Abbey and the delightful Bagno Vignoni, making for a superb day.

The Castello Tricerchi wine Estate is situated on the northern side of Montalcino hill town. It extends for 400 hectares, 13 of which being covered with Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino vineyards. In the centre of the Estate stands the Castle, built in the 13th century by the Altesi family; in 1441 it was completed by the Tricerchi family, and today winery and home of their direct descendants, the Squarcia family. The vinification and aging cellar are where in the 15th century the Tricerchi family considered it to be the best place. Everything in this part of the castle is as it was 600 years ago and traditional methods have been conserved, even with the inevitable help of technology. Our work has driven by passion, valorizing the terroir in respect of our traditions. Necessary factors to produce a noble wine, like Brunello di Montalcino. Pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 1982, the Tricerchi Castle was declared an artistic and historical heritage of Italy

We had visited Montalcino twice and enjoyed the sweeping views from the walls of the old Fortezza built in the 14th century. The mighty fortress proudly protected the hill town of Montalcino at various times and is in remarkable condition now.
