My husband and I visited this winery May 2018 and still treasure the memory. The people who run the winery were really kind and took their time to explain the process and let us taste their wines that were truly excellent. Our only regret is that we didn’t take them up on their shipping offer and bought more. As it was we only bought what we could bring back in our own suitcases. We were given an excellent tour and still remember all about how the different wines were made and the difference between the “Rosso” and the “Brunello”. We highly recommend you to visit this winery if you are in the area!

Sesta di Sopra is a 60-hectare farm dating back to the 1200's and located south of Montalcino, about 4 km from Castelnuovo dell'Abate in Tuscany, the ancient land of the Etruscans. The farmhouse and surrounding properties were acquired in 1980 by the Spina Family, who restored the farmhouse, once a watch tower, as well as the two-hectacre olive grove to its current state. The farm's location is extremely favourable for olive and grape production, thanks to the soil composition and microclimate. The vineyards, which are maintained using the most modern agricultural techniques, are of particular importance to the family - run business.

The superb wine from Montalcino is born in the vineyard and develops in the cellar. Two fundamental steps carried out with the utmost care and knowhow. The main element though is the summer sun that gives character to the grapes. Solaria is the Montalcino winery who has focused on these characteristics . the vines located on a high plateau on the southeast side of the rising Montalcino and bath in the heat of the dun from dawn till dusk! Patrizia Cencioni gives you the opportunity to tasted the wines directly at the winery; there you can discover the secrets that create Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino one of Italy's greatest wines.
We had the best time visiting Solaria winery and bought A LOT of wine and olive oil... and it is all AMAZING!!! Aryanna was the sweetest, funniest, most informed guide we've ever had on a wine tour (we even watched her expertly handle some mansplaining jerk like a pro.) This place is family run and you can feel it. They all were having the best time and in turn, so did we.

This beautiful church is all that remains of a Benedictine monastery supposedly founded in the time of Charlemagne although construction of the current church apparently started in 1118. If you look at the altar step you can see an inscription with this date. It has a lovely, stark Romanesque feel inside but it's the outside aspect that's particularly appealing. In a lovely setting surrounded by greenery it's stone seems to glow honey-like in the afternoon sun. When you reach the fork in the approach road where you should turn right turn left for a couple of hundred yards for the best distance photos before retracing your steps. What a lovely spot. We visited as part of a circle trip to Montalcino, the Abbey and the delightful Bagno Vignoni, making for a superb day.

We happened across this winery as we were traveling around Montalcino & so glad we did! We didn't have reservations but it didn't matter. Costanza took us on a very informative & interesting tour of their winery. The zebra tasting room was the best that I have ever seen! We had 6 bottles shipped home to enjoy on our return! I would definitely recommend this winery to everyone!
