Church of St. Nicholas

Reviewed By TheLush101 - Cardiff, United Kingdom

The church is right in the heart of Chisinau and easy to find in the park. It's fairly plain looking from the outside, but the inside is the usual spectacular (compared to non-orthodox christian churches) display of decoration. Definitely worth a visit and ideal if you want some peace and contemplation.

Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Saviour

Reviewed By Coryy20 - Port of Spain, Caribbean

This church is a solutley beautiful both inside and out. The exterior somewhat looks russian. The interior is clean and decorated beautifully with an exotic touch. There is an area to light your candle (for a small donation) and say a prayer. Really a must see.

Dormition of the Theotokos

We were on our way back to the airport after our tour of Moldova when our marvelous tour guide took a detour to show us this place and I'm so glad she did. It's so picturesque, a real fairy tale place and one of the highlights of my trip to Moldova. We were told that there are plans to expand the open air museum but it could take a while as there's no actual timetable for the planned expansion and from what we were told this is fairly normal for Moldova so it could be a good few years yet before there's any more to see on this site. Having said that what there is to see is utterly charming. You only need 30 minutes or so but you'll probably take some of the best pictures here.

Metropolitan Cathedral

Reviewed By DutchPatrick1987

he Cathedral of Christ's Nativity is the main cathedral of the Moldovan Orthodox Church in Central Chișinău, Moldova. It was commissioned by the governor of New Russia, Prince Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov, and Metropolitan Gavril Bănulescu-Bodoni in 1830. Melnikov's design is Neoclassical. The facade is very simple and clear with six Doric column for the entrance. Because of the numerous destructions which the cathedral suffered throughout time, the building has received several restorations and shifts in its shape. For instance, the current zinc dome and its cross at the top are both an addition from 1997 built over the previous structure. The inside was completely blank during the Soviet period but nowadays it has painted walls in pure orthodox style.
