Our brewery starts its story in 1984 when Robert Morton Limited from Burton upon Trent, United Kingdom, were commissioned to design and supply a classic, showpiece brewery for Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, capable of accommodating complex stepped mashing, and capable of brewing all beer styles. The brewery was manufactured, shipped to South Africa, and established in Barney’s Tavern in 1985, where it stood on show as a working brewery for 9 years. Then, in 1993 the brewery was relocated to The World of Beer in Newtown, Johannesburg, as a working showpiece pub brewery. Due to liquor licensing issues, the brewery was ‘mothballed’ indefinitely in Garankuwa. The derelict brewery was then purchased by Brewhogs and completely refurbished in 2013, and re-established in Kyalami, where it stands today. With our current expansion, the 3000 liter brewery now has the capacity to produce in excess of 40 000 liters per month, and even further expansion plans on the table. Watch this space!

Kyalami Country Club

Reviewed By peterbQ7167UM - Johannesburg, South Africa

It has been called SA golf's best kept secret. Kyalami Country Club - whose slogan is "out in the country but close to home" offers one of the best parkland courses in the country, with wonderful teeming birdlife and a course that challenges the best golfers ... but does not punish the hackers. Water features, trees, and a sense of serenity, all added to by the bridle path that circumnavigates the course. For visiting golfers the cost of a round is way below what most courses charge. The caddies are great - knowledgeable and friendly, and Kyle in the Professional's shop will match any price you'll find at the big retailers. Perhaps the biggest surprise though is the quality of the catering. I've had a pub lunch there, a halfway house snack and have attended major catered functions .. all high quality with snappy friendly service. If you're visiting Jo'burg, the club is about a 20-minute drive from Sandton. Bring your clubs, bring your family. Great place to chill. Play a round, have a meal and a toot.

Chris Bates Safaris

Chris Bates Safaris offers day safaris to the Pilanesberg National Park. This park is home to the Big 5 (elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard) as well as many other species of animals. Safaris are typically run starting with pickup from the hotel at around 5am and guests are returned back to their hotel around 5/6pm. The day safaris include return transfers from Johannesburg/Pretoria, park entrance, morning tea/coffee with a light breakfast, lunch and digital photographs are shared after the safari - minimum 2 guests per safari @ R3000 per person and SA and SADC rates of R2750. I studied a professional field guide qualification (field guide and backup trails) through Eco Training and have experience in a variety of private and public nature reserves. The business has partnered with some leading hotels in Johannesburg and Cape Town as well as numerous private game reserves around the country.

The SA Lippizanners had a Christmas show, showing off these beautiful, agile and majestic horses. These horses are born dark brown/ black and the colour changes as they grow. The horses were paraded in groups and solo with the songs in celebration of Christmas in the background. After the show, the kids were able to feed the horses, buy tack and souvenirs.

This amazing animalbrehad sanctuary is open to the public and is a great way for kids and animals to see some very spectacular and endangered birds, primates and other animals including Lions and Tigers. It is well worth a visit. Lots of informative plaques and notes at each cage tell the whole story.
