Stretching from the wooded Dordogne to the towering peaks of the Pyrenees, this vast region is a popular winter sports destination, but one without the hordes that besiege the Alps. Spring's melted snows lure kayakers and rafting enthusiasts. In summer, amateur and advanced hikers take to the hills.

I love this place and would say it is a must see if you are anywhere near by. We drove about an hour to see this and our family loved every minute of the walk around the castle, church and little village nestled in the cliff.

The Garonne river in Toulouse offers nice walks along the banks with amazing views on brick-made historical buildings both at night and during daytime. It’s also an opportunity to learn a lot about the history of the city that was organized around the river.

This was definitely our favorite spot to be in all of Toulouse! The Capitole building, the surrounding buildings, all the cute little cafes and restaurants, we just had a blast there. This is an absolute must do while in Toulouse!

I was very impressed by this small museum. This year’s theme is embroidery and there are pieces from evening gowns and uniforms to buttons, hats, waistcoats and shoes. The clothes are in superb condition and well displayed and lit. I took two teenagers who go round most museums at a run, but they were captivated and said they’d come away with inspiration for their own projects. The shop next door is a delight and sensibly priced for vintage items. I do hope the museum can expand one day - it’s good, and more would be even better.

Cirque de Gavarnie is a wonderful natural amphitheater located near in the homonymous town, in French Pyrenees. In fact, you can do a great walk from the town to the amphitheater. In fact, we did this excursion with all family (included my 4 years daughter and she enjoyed a lot). In the amphitheater there is a high and amazing waterfall and the views from here are very nice. The hiking is about 3 hours go and return. During almost all the excursion, it is possible to see the waterfall and almost at the end there is a hotel/restaurant, where you can relax and eat or drink something. In the last part of the trekking, you can arrive to the buttom part of the waterfall. Amazing! Top in Pyrenees! (See also Office de Tourisme de Gavarnie and Hotel du Cirque Cafe & Restaurant)

This abbatiale has been and still is an important stop for hikers and pilgrims on the Road to Compostella. Its stark beauty is enhanced by the modern, milky stained glass windows by Soulages , reminiscent of the first abbatiale windows covered simply with parchment paper. The Tympanum representing the Last Judgement over the main door is simply miraculous! You wonder how it survived religious wars , or the French Revolution...It looks like a comics book, especially with the devils trying to influence the Judgement in order to send more humans to hell...It must have terrified people in the Middle Ages! Don't miss Frere Jean's explanation in the evening, nor the night visit of the abbatiale 2nd story while organ is played down below. The Brothers Community is extremely welcoming and helpful!
