Think you need an ocean for a beach? Think again. There are miles and miles of sandy lakefront beaches in Michigan (thanks to the four Great Lakes that border it). The west coast of Michigan has especially nice beaches—try a rental in Muskegon, Grand Haven or Saugatuck. You won’t need a car when visiting Mackinac Island. In fact, they’re not allowed—this lovely Victorian resort town is pedestrian-only.

The best and most authentic and exciting underground tours available anywhere! Open late May through mid-October.
MUST DO! A perfect time capsule of mining life 100+ years ago. Great tour guides (Kevin is particularly awesome). If your family situation allows I'd recommend the Miners tour. Know that whatever tour you take you'll love it. Surprises await in the mine, get to it!

If you value expert knowledge from tour guides, this underground mine visit is worth three hours of your time! He covered tons of technical details about the operation of the equipment, the history of the copper mining industry and life in the Upper Peninsula AND, he loved fielding all of the questions raised by everyone on the tour. One of the best tour guides we have ever had lead us!

Guided Underground Tours -- A certified Michigan State Historical Landmark. This fascinating tour is family fun and educational too!! You won't forget the experience of visiting the Iron Mountain Iron Mine with skilled guides who take you through 2600 feet of underground drifts and tunnels to 400 feet below the earth's surface to see an amazing underground, lighted cavern giving you a close up view of strange geological formations. Watch tour guides operate mining machinery that was used over 100 years ago. Ride the underground mine train into the tunnel and walk approximately 2 city blocks to see the reality of iron ore mining. Over 21 million tons of iron ore was taken from this mine during 1877 to 1945. Visitors are given rain coats and hard hats before the tour begins. The temperature of the mine is a crisp 43 degrees, so a sweater or jacket is recommended along with closed covered shoes.

Unguided, below-ground tours of abandoned copper mine. Tries to present realistic portrayal of what miners experienced during their daily work underground.
Went to do the Delaware mine tour and glad we did. Ther is so much history and statistics of yester years gone by. Allow yourself alot a time at least a hour and a half or longer. Its amazing to find out just how much copper was mined from this mine alone. You watch a short video and then journey down 100 steps, or 100 feet underground, where you begin your walking journey. Amazing how much they did back in the day with the tools they had. I highly recommend all ages visit this historic mine. Just a quick tip when coming up hwy 41, you need to turn left or right onto a short gravel road and watch for signs close by. Go enjoy Snowman.
