Think you need an ocean for a beach? Think again. There are miles and miles of sandy lakefront beaches in Michigan (thanks to the four Great Lakes that border it). The west coast of Michigan has especially nice beaches—try a rental in Muskegon, Grand Haven or Saugatuck. You won’t need a car when visiting Mackinac Island. In fact, they’re not allowed—this lovely Victorian resort town is pedestrian-only.

MSU's huge country-like campus offers a lovely setting for running, biking or just hanging out, and also has places to visit, like the Beal Botanical Gardens, Sanford Natural Area, the 70,000-capacity Spartan football stadium, an art center, planetarium and, of course, the MSU Dairy Store for ice cream.
Amazing Experience!! Visited the MSU campus for a college visit and absolutely everything was positive. We have been corresponding with the school for about three months as my son is an accepted student. Our first experience was with LARRY ALTERMAN. He is the recruiter in our area. From his accepted students orientation to following up to see how our visit went, Larry is a wealth of MSU knowledge. Straight forward, informative, answered every question and spoke to the students as a parent would. He is truly amazing. The day of the tour we all met at Brody Square for lunch complements of MSU. This was accompanied by a presentation an Q&A on everything MSU. After this we took the walking tour of campus with KRISTIN. She gave a well informed tour from the students perspective. Very informative and knowledgeable. Her phrases "Cool, cool" and "Let's rock and roll" will stay in our heads. She was full of energy and a terrific guide. MEGAN in the advisors office at the business school and MADDIE, a student from the advisors office were both consistent with all information from their perspectives. I kept waiting for someone to trip up and change my opinion of this whole experience but it never happened. It was an A+++ all the way through. The campus is large but manageable for a Big10 school. Almost had a small school feel. We visited academic buidlings, dorms, wellness facilities, Spartan Stadium, etc. Wear comfortable shoes and definitely dress warm in the winter. As we have been through the college experience prior with our other kids, the MSU experience was by far the most informative and stress free from all the schools we have ever dealt with. Amazing follow up from everyone which is rare these days. Definitely the best college experience ever!!

Very out going staff. Take your kids here for an educational and fun afternoon. It's on several floors. The only complaint I have, it's some what hard to find

After touring the U of M campus, our guide left this for last. Well, there is that old saying about saving the best for last. This area not only feels isolated from the rest of campus, it feels isolated from everything else everywhere! Entering the Quadrangle, it's as if there's an immediate hush. And then you enter the Law Library. Almost more of a church, the artwork on the ceilings, the chandeliers, and the stained glass windows are spectacular. Just look it up for yourself, but pictures don't really do it justice. I was told, unverified, that this Library inspired the buildings of Hogwarts. I guess we can believe that, if we like. Impressive is an understatement.

Looking for something to do outdoors during these COVID times, on a bright sunny afternoon (the sun made up for the cold temperatures), we spent a hour wandering about the College of Creative Studies campus. The Josephine Ford Sculpture Garden (a project with the Detroit Institute of Arts) is a delight with an array of sculptures from local to international sculptors to enjoy! Don't miss the Ursula von Rydingsvard sculpture “Bowl with Folds”! The Arts & Crafts Building designed by Minoru Yamasaki and its Japanese style gardens are not to be missed, so take a walk around the building. And if you can make it over to Brush Street, check out the Hubert Massey mural on the parking garage...it's a beauty!!

This little gem of a planetarium is set right in the middle of the charming town of Bay City. The planetarium has excellent programs introduced by a very good moderator named Mike. The audience when we attended was composed of families with children ages two through teenaged, and all seemed entertained. The seats were comfortable and the place was immaculately clean. The entrance fees are quite low ($6 for adults, $5 for children and seniors), and the gift shop sells reasonably priced educational toys and books. Highly recommend!

Wide range of professional program supported by outstanding liberal education. Beautiful campus on the border of upper Michigan and Canada.
