Turn back the time and discover "the hell of Verdun", one of the most important and terrifying battles of the first world war. Through this tour, thanks to your guide, you will understand the specificities of this battle, walking on the path of the soldiers, visiting the fortifications, the trenches, and the remaining shell holes. You will be impressed by the impressive Ossuary and this endless number of crosses... How not to be touch by the sacrifice of those brave young men (and women), whatever the country they were fighting for.

We had a wonderful experience touring the highlights of Reims with Gwendol and Royal Journey this past September and I highly recommend you use him and his services! We had a limited amount of time in the area, and wanted to maximize seeing a few of the highlights. He designed an itinerary for us that balanced sight-seeing of priority spots for us (Reims cathedral, Hautvillers, Eparnay) with some relaxation time tasting champagne at a wonderful spot he recommended (L'Ecurie in Eparnay owned by Champagne de Venoge). Gwendol is very knowledgable, contributed informative, educational details about the various places we visited and was kind, easygoing and friendly. He rolled with the punches with our motley crew and made the whole touring experience so seamless and easy. Gwendol's Mercedes V class van was lovely, clean and comfortable, and he picked us up and dropped us off in a timely fashion at our rented property. Thank you, Gwendol, for providing us with such a lovely experience visiting the beautiful area of Reims.
The Meuse-Argonne was the principal engagement of the AEF during World War 1. During this visit, we will discover the battle field, mostly protected today with trenches being entangled all over, but covered by vegetation today. We will also visit The American War Cemetery of Romagne sous Montfaucon, the biggest in Europe with 15.000 graves of American Heroes. Also, several magnificent memorials and fortresses to visit, and ghost villages, never rebuilt. The visit of Verdun will also be an experience as this town resisted all the War and is also surrounded with highlights. The entire area is a must to visit, to honour all these Heroes who gave their lives for our freedom.

Thankfully, the battlefield is largely as it appeared in 1815. Rolling hills, farm fields, the wooded and walled Hougoumont (well-restored) and la Haye Saint (not so much). Still, the vibe and the atmosphere is evocative of the crucial Napoleonic struggle that took place here. The museum is excellent. Creative displays, lots of artifacts. The great Lions mound is a bit of a distraction. But it does afford spectacular views of the entire battlefield. Two downsides: the busy road that runs right through the field, north to south, is a little offputting. And Napoleon’s command position was overgrown with shrubs when I was there.
This full-day private tour will immerse you in the history of one of the bloodiest battles of WWI.

Ignore date visited, this was a cancellation review on this company. Date of visit was required for review. We scheduled a private tour for August 2019 but an itinerary change forced us to cancel our tour, Reading their conditions and submitting our request for refund was met with a professional and prompt refunf of our Deposit. Murielle is a very gracious in all her emails and we look forward to a rescheduling of our WW1 USMC battlefield tour in the near future. Thanks Murielle!!
Start the day with a stop at the ossuary “La ferme de Navarin”, monument inaugurated by General Gouraud in 1924, in memory of French soldiers who died during the Great war. Your guide will then drive you to the Meuse region, in the heart of the forest where the “Kronprinz” shelter is located, one of the German soldiers camp. Explore the famous hillock of Vauquois, full of galleries, where 14,000 soldiers lost their lives along a tiny portion of the Western front. Be driven to the historic site of Varennes-en-Argonne, at the Pennsylvania American war memorial and admire the magnificent panorama of the valley of the Aire. Hear a fascinating aside about the king Louis XVI who got arrested there in 1791. Discover the most well-known American cemetery of the World War I in Romagne sous Montfaucon. Come across the impressive ossuary in Douaumont, where unidentified French and German soldiers rest. End this trip with a visit of the “Fort de Douaumont”, iconic fortress of the Verdun battle.

10/10! Definitely recommend doing the virtual tasting tour with Tom, who did a wonderful job creating an immersive experience online. He is highly knowledgable and passionate when it comes to all things champagne and not to mention, he's easy on the eyes. Can't wait to do a tour with A la Francaise again in the future :)

November 11th is a day of remembrance in the US for all of our veterans but this day holds a very special meaning to everyone affected by WW1. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month the War to End All Wars was over. I had very little knowledge of the details other than my grandfather’s recently discovered military records from his service in Europe during WW1. Regis was able to use these few details to discover my grandfather’s exact battlefield locations and the significance of his unit’s contribution to the war effort. I was so enthralled by my 1st tour in November of 2019, that I booked another private tour with Regis in February 2020. Regis was able to expand on my knowledge of the war and of my grandfather’s role in the overall Allied effort. Now after a year has passed, I can reflect on this experience and humbly try to express my thanks to Regis for his extraordinary knowledge and interest in the history of his country and the Allies during WW1 and WW2. I hope to be able to return soon when the situation allows, and to explore more of the lessons of this important time. On this special day, I want to extend a special thanks to Regis for 2 incredible tours and for my deepened understanding of a grandfather’s legacy.
