We have flown into Memmingen on several occasions on our way to Austria but until now had never stayed in Memmingen. Well, what a hidden gem. Not touristy at all and not that much English spoken yet the people we met and spoke with were very patient and helpful. We have basically no German but got on fine. The beautiful old town with its pretty buildings, colourful decoration & gate towers coupled with the huge array of one off and chain stores make Memmingen the perfect location. We followed two walking routes around the town from a leaflet we picked up in the tourist information office on Marketplatz. We often strayed from the route stumbling across even more narrow roads lined with every store you could possibly want, even good old Woolworths and C&A!! We even took the train into Munich and took a tour to Dachau Memorial Site. Memmingen comes highly recommended. We will defiantly be coming back again.

This was a beautiful old building in the main square of Memmingen. Be sure to read the historical information in English nearby.

The church holds regular free organ concerts that are quite impressive. And the interior of the church is beautifully painted and welcoming.
