We are so lucky to live in a place that has a public pier which offers outstanding sunset views on the Indian River lagoon. Thank you Melbourne Beach for maintaining this priceless treasure!

The 34-acre Sanctuary and education center offers visitors a place to explore the dynamic coastal environment. An observation deck, boardwalk and overlook offer magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean. A 1-mile hiking trail winds visitors across the barrier island, from the ocean to the Indian River Lagoon. Inside visitors can explore aquariums and interactive exhibits, view eco-themed movies in the theater, or shop in the Mermaid's Purse gift shop. The Sanctuary is the environmental education center for the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most important nesting beaches in the world for sea turtles. Guided sea turtle walks are offered during June and July and a variety of environmental education programs and activities are regularly offered for visitors of all ages. Admission is always free, open Tuesday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Barrier Island Center was a great place for viewing sea turtles. The center is well kept and all the people are very nice. There is also a nice wildlife sanctuary right across A1A. This is a family-friendly place.

Black Dog Bait and Tackle is a family owned and operated bait and tackle shop in Melbourne Beach Florida. Serving live and frozen bait to all the fisherman in the area, Black Dog also has a large selection of tackle, rods and reels, as well as shirts, hats and sunglasses. Stop by just for a fishing report or to get geared up to get on some fish.... you are always welcome at the Dog House!
Years ago a great surf guide John Detmer told me about this bait shop. I stopped in a few times and bought bait but nothing ever jumped out as great. This week I went with two friends, I was looking for either a new beach cart or new wheels for my 15 yr old Fish n Mate Jr. Let me tell you Collin was terrific!!! He answered our questions and was knowledgeable of the various carts and wheels. We went to purchase ONE set of wheels and left with new wheels for all THREE of our carts!!! He gave us some local fishing tips and encouraged us to fish locally. Collin was energetic, knowledgeable and polite! Glad we chose to shop at small family owned shop versus online or large store!!

This trail is AWESOME! Nice and quiet with winding trails through the mangroves and natural Florida woods. Plenty of native plants, flowers and trees as well as a wide variety of wildlife! Definitely going back again!

Off A1A and south of Melbourne, FL on the way to Sebastian, this city park is situated on the beach. First off, there is plenty of parking. Second, clean and well appointed bathrooms allows for a shower and bathing suit changes. Third, outdoor showers to rinse sand as salt from everything. Then you get to the boardwalk. Nice, broad wooden ramp to allow wheelchairs, fishing carts etc., access to the beach without hassle. And the view is just stunning when the sun is up. You can clearly see different shades of green and blue water with birds all over the place. Hungry? No problem. "Billy's" mobile eatery serves excellent food right there. We have yet to see the beach dirty. It is a safe environment for families with a few gazebo's to rent for a special event. Hats off to the city's Parks Department!
