We enjoyed visiting here very much. The building/visitor center itself was closed (Covid) but the ranger stood outside and told us all about the area. We then were able to take the short 1.2 mile drive through the battlefield. Just the right amount of information for us. No gift store here.

Cold Harbor Battlefield Park & Garthright House

My grandmother, Betsy Walker, belonged to a women's club that hosted historical days here, at the Watt House and Gaines Mill. I grew up in the house on the hill next to the mill house. I was fortunate to learn about those places. At one time Grandpa owned the mill house and had restored it and the old water wheel. It was a great area to grow up in. There were trenches everywhere in that area. Well worth the visit. Sad that you can't see in the Garthright House. It had a wonderful old kitchen with a huge fireplace to cook. Upstairs there was still holes from bullets and blood on the floor from when it was a hospital. Lots of great history.
