Fox Creek Winery is my favorite winery in McLaren Vale. Their Vixen Sparkling Shiraz and other wines are excellent and I always use them for functions and entertaining.

The idea to build the d'Arenberg Cube came to Chief Winemaker Chester Osborn in 2003. Inspired by the complexities and puzzles of winemaking, Chester created the idea of a cube-shaped building. Each of the five levels have been carefully designed to entice and excite the senses, including features such as a wine inhalation room, a virtual fermenter, a 360degree video room, and many other tactile experiences. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Alternate Realities Museum, located on the ground floor, and view the many art installations on display. The tasting room is located on the top floor, and is open 7 days a week 10am - 5pm.
We were a little concerned that this place had been too hyped up and overrated but it was actually an amazing experience even for me who doesn't actually enjoy wine all that much. The cube is impressive and it's worth just going to get a photo. But I can also highly recommend the tastings on the top floor. Our wine guy James was super friendly, really attentive and engaging, and made it feel like quiet a personal experience even when there were so many people around in the tasting room. I recommend getting there first thing in the morning otherwise it gets super busy. When we left there were people having to line up to get in. And I wouldn't bother with the gallery. Just pay the $15 for the rest of the experience and it should be a pretty enjoyable time!

Hugh Hamilton Wines is a 'must see' winery in McLaren Vale. Set on a ridge line it provides nearly 360 degree 'stunning' views of the McLaren Vale wine region. The wines are all estate grown and include the main stream varietals such as Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot including some of the more rare and unusual varieties including Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Saperavi. All wines have fun names and include The Trickster, The Scallywag, The Rascal, The Villain, The Ratbag, The Mongrel, The Scoundrel, The Floozie, The Oddball, and The Drama Queen. Visitors from overseas are all welcome.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Hugh Hamilton Wines today. Had an informative and enjoyable tasting session. This place obviously enjoys making wine and it’s such a great outlook over the vineyard.

Wirra Wirra is a James Halliday 5 Star Winery and its hero wine, Church Block, is the largest selling red blend in its category in Australia. The ironstone buildings that have been at the heart of Wirra Wirra have recently been refurbished to create a world class facility that includes the main cellar door with a range of exclusive wines, Harry's Deli, a relaxed provedore style cafe, a range of behind the scenes tours of the winery and historic ironstone cellars, plus spacious gardens that are the perfect location to enjoy a regional platter or family BBQ. All only 40 minutes from the city of Adelaide.
Wirra Wirra was particularly a must see for us as Churchblock is one of our household favourites so we were keen and eager to try the other wines on offer. The grounds are beautiful, and the wines exceeding already high expectations, we love red so these full bodies, full flavour reds made a lasting impression on us. It was also great to try a few of the cellar door exclusive reds and we picked our self up a nice bottle to store away for a later date. Wirra Wirra provides such a relaxing environment in a picturesque setting to enjoy a light meal and a few glasses of wine. The outside area overlooking the vineyards i find particularly relaxing and enjoyable. You can also get a private tour of the vineyards and wine making though i haven’t yet done this yet myself, i have heard its an amazing experience from friends. There is also a shiraz master class with chocolate that you can do and I’m sure some other little experiences so check this place out not just for wine tasting, but for some more intimate couple experiences that would be sure to be a great day out. At the tasting area, staff are very informative and will provide you with lots of information about Wirra Wirra wines and their history. It truly is a fantastic way to spend the day or the weekend, at the least, a couple of hours here goes so quickly. They serve good quality local assorted meats, cheeses and breads so I recommended taking the time to soak it all in and pair some good quality wine with some local produce. Look forward to returning again.

Samuel's Gorge is a boutique winery specialising in small batch red wines including Grenache, Tempranillo, Graciano, Mourvèdre and Shiraz. Housed in an 1850's built farm shed, our award winning cellar door on the hill offers sweeping views of both the Onkaparinga River National Park and the Gulf of St Vincent.
I'd have to say that this winery provided one of the top experiences we had while touring all the wine regions around Adelaide (McClaren, Clare, Barossa, Hills). The long driveway on arrival with Kangaroos bounding beside you was a perfect start. The cellar door is a cute rustic building with a tonne of charm. Seated outside undercover on a beautiful day with views across the mountain and gorge set the perfect scene for a personal tasting. The wines were unexpectedly top quality and the knowledge and genuine demeanour of the guy serving us (sorry forgot your name even though you told 7s twice!) made for a top experience. Relaxed but quality conversation and wines. We will be recommending Samuels Gorge to friends and family. A boutique winery without pretention and with personal service. Thanks for the experience !
